+June 26 - Carillon Historical Park, Dayton, Ohio : Bald Eaglet Aviator.

Aviator, one of the Triplets around 93 do. Navigator and Pilot your siblings, Mom Willa and Dad Orv, your parents, already miss you so much every days hours and minutes. :cry1:

Please do something serious to finally protect the birds from those damn and dangerous power lines.

Jim Weller wrote:
We lost a 93 day old fledgling today. I do educational posts on our Carillon Eagle Friends Facebook group. This one hurts.
She brushed against power lines while in flight. She simultaneously came into contact with two bare lines of a three conductor span, completing the circuit and the current passed through her body. She died instantly. Her body came to rest on the grassy hillside in front of the Wright Brothers' bike shop.

Aviator, Carillon Historical Park eaglet, has died
DAYTON — One of the Carillon Historical Park eaglet triplets died Saturday afternoon.

The park’s eagle expert Jim Weller confirmed Aviator, the large female juvenile, was electrocuted striking power lines outside of the Carillon Park Bicycle Shop. The incident happened around 3:00 p.m.
Weller said Aviator died instantly and painlessly.
“Flying free and exploring her new world, she was a very gracious sight to behold,” Weller said in a statement honoring the young eagle.
The Glen Helen Raptor Center is in possession of her remains.
Aviator, along with Navigator and Pilot, hatched in March and were first spotted in April. They took their first flights about two weeks ago.
This is not the first time the park has had to mourn the loss of an eaglet. In 2018, a female eaglet named Flyer was struck by a delivery truck while attempting to cross Interstate 75 in Dayton.

+~June 27 - Audubon, Florida : Screech-owl Tony.

Tony the 19 y +1 m old Screech-owl

Audubon Center for Birds of Prey https://www.facebook.com/AudubonCenterforBirdsofPrey/
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the loss of the sweetest feathered soul, Tony the Screech-owl.
Tony was admitted in May of 2002 as a nestling. He had severe eye trauma to both eyes which resulted in his left eye being sutured shut, making him non-releasable. In the wild, Eastern Screech-owls live to about 8-10 years, but Tony celebrated 19 years last month.
During his life, Tony proved to be a great ambassador for his species. He seemed to enjoy the company of his handlers, which made him perfect for educational programming to teach about the importance and majesty of owls. He was unruffled by small children, and on school visits over the years, won the hearts of so many students, becoming the reason why they learned to care about wildlife and the environment. For new volunteers learning how to work with birds, easy-going Tony was where most of them started. He was quick to adapt to new handlers, and help in their training of working with all raptors.
Over the last few years Tony started to show his age. He was ‘retired’ from programming when his arthritis acted up, and a cataract in his ‘good’ eye life him close to blind. However, you’d never know Tony’s age by his actions, his welcoming persona kept up until the end. He loved to trill and whinny at anyone who visited him on the porch of the Audubon House.
Tony passed away peacefully overnight this past weekend. He gave no indication that he was suffering or needed extra care, but after 19 years his little body came to its end.
We know, like us, many guests quickly fell in love with Tony, and he will be missed by all who met him over the years. If you’d like to make a donation in memory of Tony you may by using this link: https://act.audubon.org/onlineactions/a ... H08F80G1_U
If you have photos or stories from a time you got to meet Tony, please share them in the comments so we can celebrate his life together. https://www.facebook.com/AudubonCenterforBirdsofPrey/

As a little message for all these little birds who flew away and let them sad and alone in this so particular season..

This early morning i heard a song about HOPE
Song by Céline Dion,
Songwriter(s) Marcel LefebvrePaul Baillargeon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXMpmOcex6o

Bis

A dove has started a journey
Around the world it carries its message
Of peace, of love and friendship
Of peace, of love to share
And it's its youth that makes it fly

A dove has started a journey
To make everyone sing wherever it goes
Peace, love and friendship
Peace, love and truth
When it opens its wings
It's for the sake of freedom

It flies
It looks for the sun
It dreams of wonders
It hopes to arrive
It believes
That there is somewhere
A country for hope
And that it will be able to see it

Bis

+~July 05 - California Condor Sanctuary, Ca : Condor Kodiak #974.

Ventana Wildlife Soc Mod • 3 days ago"Kodiak" 974 Update-
July 6, 2021 Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all the comments/concerns expressed on behalf of Kodiak, we very much appreciate the support.
We have been closely monitoring his movements and behavior over the course of the last month. We have made multiple attempts to capture Kodiak over the last couple weeks and he has eluded us thus far. We do have some good news to report, over the last week we noticed a slight improvement in his behavior. He has been drinking/eating at the release site and socializing with the other condors. Overall, he has been more alert, which is always a good sign. Unfortunately, we suspect he was lead poisoned last month and has been in a very slow recovery mode ever since. Recovery from severe lead poisoning can take weeks, even months. A couple years ago we observed male condor, "Fuego" #470, battle lead poisoning over the course of a few months. He too eluded our trap attempts and, fortunately, fully recovered on his own. This is always very tough to watch and we very much sympathize with all you.

Sad news. It is with a heavy heart we inform you that "Kodiak" #974 has passed away. His clinical signs were consistent with a condor battling lead poisoning, so we suspect that was the likely cause, but can't say for sure until we hear back from the pathology lab. We thought Kodiak was starting to show signs of recovery earlier in the week but he took a turn for the worst shortly after the last update. The late stages of lead poisoning tend to unfold like this unfortunately. This is why its so important to switch to nonlead ammunition, it will save the lives of condors like Kodiak and other wildlife. Learn more about the impacts of lead poisoning to condors and our free nonlead ammunition program here-

Rip 2021

+July 09 - from Kurzeme, Latvia : Osplet Pipars.

Pipars was a young 40 days old osprey grabbed and carried away by a goshawk.
A goshawk appeared with Mom Vita in its tail but so quick, then it came back and took the little osplet away. Last year in the same nest the osplet was carried away in the same way by a goshawk too. Rip 2021

July 11 - from Kurzeme, Latvia : Osplet Poga.

Poga was a young ~44 days old osprey grabbed and carried away by a goshawk.
As you might expect, from the moment a goshawk's feeder is in place, you shouldn't be surprised at anything.
around 20h26 a goshawk appeared, surprised Mom Vita and in an unique passage it carried away the little Poga yet lurking at the bottom of its nest. Mom went to its tail but the Goshawk was so quick. :cry1:
Once again this family of Ospreys has paid the price. Already last year the only ospret was also carried away by an oshawk. Vita & Teo the parents, are new alone on their huge artificial nest. " Zivju ērgļi~ Vita lost the battle for her chick~8:20 PM 2021/07/11"
Usually the Goshawk does not hunt in the treetops. They hunt in the forest. They are well equipped for this. they can hunt among the trees with incredible speed and skill. They only hunt in that high when there is not enough food left in the forest. We all know that the number of forest birds has decreased incredibly! There is less and less food for all birds!
Vita tries to defend her little one for a few minutes! , but she is without chance against a goshawk! She was very brave!

Rip 2021

July 12 - from Jõgeva County in Estonia : Black Storklet Benjamin.

Must-toonekurg2::Ciconia nigra
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euyp7iEHJBA

07-11. Benjamin (3 weeks 4do) the younger storklet of 4 is leaving us. Neurological problem, lack of food, illness, no one knows but yesterday evening 07-10 around 20h50 during its last preening, Benjamin rolled onto his back and has not been able to get up since despite his best efforts. Its left wing is totally deployed and Benjamin is laying down on his left side and can't move its left wing so it is impossible for it to stand up.

Videos of one moment by Liznm
"Must-tonnekurg~Benjamin collapsed during preening due to some internal reason~8:50 PM 2021/07/11"
Benjamin is the left one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIM4_0jm9E8
2 others videos, 2 time this morning 07-11 the little guy tried to stand up during the breakfasts but wasn't able 06h44 and 07h53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88Y9iwh0iQw & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpcuMAJRE1g

07-11-2021 at 07h54 Benjamin is laying down in front of its siblings
2021-07-11_09h36_28.jpg
13h16 Benjamin is still with us. As you can see its left wing is totally deployed under it and if a sibling walks on it, it is a real suffering for Benjamin :rh:
2021-07-11_12h17_48.jpg
On the way that you follow Benjamin, I promise you the best. Do not be afraid you will not regret anything, you will watch over yours and find all your predecessors. You can let go now dear Benjamin Benjamin you don't have to stay in pain. Go in peace. In your siblings, Mom and Dad as in us you will live forever. :cry1: :cryhanky:

16h59 local time, 08h59 CT. Benjamin always fights against adversity, against the inevitable. It hangs on but cannot eat or drink. Its end promises to be terrible and painful for a so young storklet. But i think Benjamin is lucky to have its siblings all around.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
07-12-2021. 07h34 a.m. Local Time/07-11-2021. 11:34 p.m. CT.
The agony of little Benjamin has been going on for more than 35:00 now. Anyway if it had been necessary to save him, they would have had to act yesterday. Now I think after this time without food or water, without the possibility of evacuating the heat as his siblings the deterioration of his internal organs must certainly have started. And yet what a brave little man, he never complains unless you pick him up with little pecks or if you walk on his inert left wing which rests outstretched in the nest.
2021-07-12_06h34_22.jpg
:( 14h00 local time Benjamin is still breathing and reacting when one of its siblings steps on its legs or wing. 15h29 Last time i saw him lift its head

Finally 07-12-2021 at 15h35 local time, 07h35 am CT, (42h45 of agony) little Benjamin lifted his right wing 2 or 3 times then without a whisper the muscles of this wing relaxed, his breathing stopped. The little black storklet, surrounded by his 3 siblings, flew away to the Heavens.

Rip Benjamin, i hope you didn't suffer too much. Now you are a free soaring Storklet with a full crop forever. 😢🙏

Rip 2021

July ~06 - from Charlo Osprey nest, MT: Osplet C12 Charlotte & Charlie's older osplet.

C12 hatched the 06-13, 2 days before C13.

The 06-28, C12 was seen entangled in orange baling twine. The same day a rescue Mission removed the baling twine:

Then, a few days later on July 5, Charlie brought more baling twine to the nest. The chick again got tangled, and another rescue mission was organized. It was also observed by the camera operators that the injured chick was not very mobile around the nest. The rescue mission was able to untangle the chick and bring it down for examination. The injured leg did not seem to be healing, so the chick was taken to Wild Skies Raptor Center for medical attention. At the rehabilitation center, the chick was fed and examined.
An X-ray of the leg revealed multiple serious breaks and other injuries.
Unfortunately, the injuries were too severe to be a candidate for any kind of medical intervention or surgery, and the chick was humanely euthanized. :cry1: :brknhrt:

By dint of enduring and sharing these pains, these sorrows, this sadness and all these tears with all our little feathered friends, young or old, for that matter, maybe one day I will have to withdraw completely for an indefinite period because that season has been particularly terrible despite some wonderful and happy successes.

It is possible that I scatter a little too much in the different nests or there is a real hecatomb this year in terms of the survival of the chicks. Considering what I read in the various forums, I think more for the hecatomb.

update about Benjamin the Black Storklet.
This morning 07-15 at 08:10 Local Time (01:10 CT) Benjamin's three siblings were ringed. At the same time, Benji's remains were taken down for analysis. The bander had a lot to say while he was in the nest. I didn't want to answer him that I didn't care about his thoughts at the time but just that he was 4 days late to save or reduce Benjamin's suffering. That's all.
I wish all the best to Janika and Jan Benjamin's parents and his 3 siblings..

First time for the non intervention the reasons were the security of the 3 others storklets and they needed to wait still 1 to 2 weeks before the ringing..
In fact they waited only 4 days...
Next thing. If they can get a transmitter they will come back to equipped one of the storklets...
Thanks to these "scientifics/specialists" for their humanity
they will have many things to say once they will be to the other side... :chin:

Janika, Benjamin's Mom was last seen the 07-13 at 09h25 am(last time she fed her storklets) .
2021-07-17_09h26_59.jpg
At 09h23 she stayed a little while just over the Benjamin's body, her little one, then she flew away and never returned 07-17.
:woohoo: Back the 07-18 :woohoo: :thumlft: after 5 days out. Maybe she needed this time away after the loss of Benjamin :brknhrt: ... :cry1: :luck: and Janika was last seen on August 06 at 16h14 for a feeding of her guys. A WTE was also seen around.

July 21- from Fraser Point Eagle Nest, Ca. Bald Eagle Spirit (Aka A-64) Cruz's Beloved Mate and Loved Father of 16 eaglets.

From Pascale :ty:

"Sad news from Fraser point nest. Mom Cruz has lost her mate. Cp from Sharon Dune Facebook post

Some very sad news at Fraser Point - the male A-64 Spirit was found dead today.
A kayak guide found Spirit floating dead in the ocean on the eastern edge of the Fraser Point territory today.
He said there was no obvious trauma.

A-64 Spirit was a 2008 hatch in the Pelican Harbor nest and has been the resident male at FP nest since 2012. Spirit paired up with A-49 Cruz (2006 Pelican Harbor nest) and they have raised to fledge 16 chicks during the past 9 years they were together. This is a very sad day losing Spirit and for Cruz who has lost her companion and mate. Spirit's legacy will continue on for generations with all his successful fledglings. 🌹🦅 RIP Spirit 💔

Rip 2021

July 25- from Polgár, Hungary. Red-footed falconets Prff#1 & Prff#2. Both were 8 do.

LIVE Nest Cam - Red-footed falcons (Polgár, Hungary) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n_xw46m_hs
https://madarles.hu/en

Around 21h00, two Red-footed falconets were already sleeping in their nestbox. Mom wasn't there and never came back before the tragedy.
At 03h50 an owl arrived in the nest, killed one of the falconets and brought it away. The second falconet is still alive and seems to be in a good shape and sleeping.
As it was not enougth the owl returned at 04h16 and finished its bad work. A free act as the owl killed the second falconet by beheading... she ate just a little bit of it, put the head and the little body in a hidden corner of the nestbox and left away. It was 04h22. Just before 04h27 Mom arrived but where were you Mom ? it is too late, your angels are gone! She enters the nest and stayed in until almost 04h55. At 05h09 she is back with food, places the dead body in the middle of the nest and tries to feed the dead body....
At 10h02 Mom is back with fresh food, calling her dead chick to wake it up and to feed it.. but it sleeps its last sleep; then she flies away with the food.

21h23 Both falconets are just awaked
2021-07-25_09h26_32.jpg
04h18 the owl is back (second time) to end its horrific nighttime mischief.
2021-07-25_09h29_57.jpg
04h27 Mom arrived... so late! The body of the second little one is in the right corner
2021-07-25_09h28_37.jpg
What can i say ? Both of them, each time were suprised in their sleep. I know this is not a reason but it helps me to think that may be attenuated the pain :cry1:

One more time this season, two wondeful Angels had flown... and so young like so many before they didn't deserve that 🙏 :( :cry1: :brknhrt: :cryhanky:
