Beautiful job on the "In Memorium" page Philjo. :)

When I get up I always I check the feeders and bird seed on the deck then usually watch the birds as I get breakfast. This morning all the seed was still there and not a bird in sight. This always means there's a hawk around and it didn't take long to spot it. I think it's a Sharp Shinned hawk.

It hung around for 15 minutes or so then finally left. A short time later the birds started showing up.
Very warm today compared to how it's been lately. The temperature was well above freezing all day.

Good Morning....just lost my post, will try again.....

Scott, I think that might be Clear.........would be lovely if it was.
And even a new mink is good.

As for the Hawk, yes, they sure make the birds get scarce, as in my yard. But the birds return. I saw a hawk do a nosedive from a big pine the other day and probably got something, yet beyond many trees so who knows. It was a spectacular dive.

Then I saw a Heron (Great Blue) run, fast, chasing a Cormorant down the ditch by a pond. When the Cormorant got a fish, the Heron grabbed and swallowed it, then the Cormorant got another fish for itself. It was a fast run!

Philjo.....I am sorry for what occurred as stated on the thread and hope in time you heal.

Thanks Judi for the comment about a poem and I hope things are better with you.

Hawk dives are pretty cool to witness Carolyn. Watching the heron steal from the cormorant must have been too. :)

Iona, it will get better. As for the cold, I hope you feel better soon.

Scott...little things drive me to write and you just did.

Snow melting quietly,
does it make a sound,
if it did, we would know,
it would resound!

It's there, it's gone, it was there I know,
and if it was, I can prove it,
as it would surely show.

Snow falling makes little sound,
unless it turns to hail,
then it will strike surprisingly to prevail.

Snow melting quietly,
a beautiful sound,
we turn around, and find
it is amazingly profound.

Stripe is a good name, I want to see Clear again please. I hope he is safe, albeit not likely.

 To Friday evening

I've read the good news & the sad news & I don't think I'm ever prepared for the enormity of any of it. :rh:

I just thought I was confused about IDing the mink. Now I'm even more so. :D

Great capture of the Sharp shinned, Scott. :thumlft:

The pileated has been frequenting a nearby tree. The robins are all over the yard lately. This weather is still a bit strange to me. We did have 3 mornings in a row of freezing.

Iona, hope you're all mended now & Carolyn, enjoyed your poems. Philjo, thank you for your tributes. Judi, :gdog: is good. :)

Nice that you're seeing the pileated and all the robins Naoma. :)
You'll be even more confused about the mink after reading tonight's update. I sure was. :mihihi:

Great to hear you're feeling better Iona. That's a lovely tribute to Walter. Thanks. :)

Thank you for posting the tribute Iona...I'll watch later.

Stripe, Streak or Clear, oh dear!
I wonder who is whom,
and in what room, under, over or in the window.

Now look at the pictures and try to identify,
much information we can gleam from that source,
and no matter what minks they are without remorse.
