Good Morning All

Nightowl - :w00t: It must have been a sight you trying to salt a bird. Love it. :rh: Squirrel inside the cage  I had a supposedly squirrel proof feeder once. The perch was a bar that would close of the feeding holes if something heavier than a bird got on it. Well the squirrel couldn't get into the holes, so he decided to chew a new one. The thing was made of thick aluminum and I don't know how long he chewed at the top, but he finally did chew a hole through about 2 inches of metal.

Ah, squirrels. My granddaddy loved them. When we used to visit, he would have bags of California walnuts; but we weren't allowed to have any he bought them just for his squirrels. His back yard was facing right up to the local park and he used to go sit out in the yard and hold out walnuts and the squirrels would climb on his lap and take them and even eat them on his lap. He was so patient in training them, and he loved them all. Us grand-kids got lots of other treats so not having the walnuts wasn't too much of a disappointment.

Carolyn - a pileated on your feeder wow, mine have never been so brave. Awesome!

Tex - my bird posts have a special baffle on them that keeps the squirrels and raccoons from being able to climb them, and the hooks are up high, so I've never had a problem with raccoons or squirrels just bears. :grlol; I'll get a pic this weekend and post. No matter what you do to your garden, I'm certain it will be beautiful. :huggie:

Phew.....When we had a bird feeder that determined by weight what should or should not go on it, the raccoons always managed to hurt it, foil the battery. Now we have a simpler one that is amazing. Only birds go on it. My favorite are the cardinals and they nest nearby. We have a ton of trees around here so that makes for good nesting.

I think though the best and most fascinating sight I ever had was a hawk on the top of our umbrella. I do not remember what kind. At any rate it sat stock still, no movement, and waited. It was the time of year when we have flocks of birds come through, they also were quiet, not moving, until......one did, Hawk snatched and that was that.

The stories here are fun.....thanks all!

Nice story about your granddad and the squirrels Pat. :)
I've had a rodent chew through wire mesh which I didn't think was possible but your squirrel surpassed that. Your feeder must be filled with something it really wanted.

Cool vid of the Pileated showing some action elle. :)

Iona, great close up s'caps of the eagles.
I hope you are prepared for the big winter storm that looks to be coming your way.

You too, wind, I see it's forecase to come thru there too.
Great childhood memories. :)

Nightowl, :D @ the squirrel as long as all was well.
I saw either a Downy or Hairy in the tree today; couldn't see good enough to tell which.

I notice the small birds eat more frequently at the Sq. Feeder than the cardinals, Scott. I'm sure it also depends on whether there's any scattered seed around.
You're training your squirrel, :D

Carolyn, always an interesting way with words. :)
I too enjoy the wildlife recaps of yard or area activity.

I enjoyed your Pileated vid today elle :thumlft:

JuD, I plan to check out Frankie & Gracie this weekend. :)

:bye 1: for now

Sunday Evening Hugs All

Iona,
glad you are prepared. Hope the snow/cold fades quickly.

Finally to freeze here tonight. Coolish windy day. Nothing unpleasant so far. I know you guys think I'm crazy for missing the real winter but I do. I guess bad weather here is mostly rain/storms In its season.

Scott, what polar vortex storm is the PacNW preparing for you/us now ? :)

Not sure if I ever showed you guys my stump art.
After getting here the boys came wagging it up from one of their finds. It's dressed for winter right now. :)

TX, love your stump art......it speaks volumes. Betcha did not know it could speak?

We had a freeze last night covered and moved plants. Now the beautiful moon is outside glowing into the window. Andi and I had an incredible nursing home visit today, touching hearts big time. Even a minister there to minister to family of a patient soon to start their final journey. I did not realize until I got home that I had felt "called" to speak to him and bring him smiles, but it sure happened. We talked about how children and senior citizens have much in common which is probably why Andi will not jump on either....be good, sit and let people pet her, then she kisses them if they wish. It's a sight to see, the smiles growing on faces around just by her grin. I love it.....
on that thought....sweet dreams,

It is a clear night here and the full moon is just now totally eclipsed and starting to turn red. Fabulous.

I have no idea which storm is on the way Naoma but I was happily surprised the skies were clear this evening so I could see the lunar eclipse. :)
I do not think you're crazy about missing a real winter. It's been mild here and I'd prefer a month (maybe two weeks) of snow as long as it's not the sloppy went kind.
Love the stump art. Cool you have a plant as old as one of your kids. When Mom sold her house the lovely bush the width of the front window was around 58 years old. Too big for her apartment balcony. :mihihi:

What a special nusring home visit you and Andi had Carolyn. :)
Cute little "stumped" poem.

The weather was perfect for the eclipse and it was special to see elle. :)

Good Morning All,

I'm so jealous - wanted to see the blood moon here, but it was overcast. :( Oh well next time, at least we did not get snow like they predicted. It had stopped raining by the time the temp dropped on Sunday.

Elle - love the video of the woodpecker, that is just they way the woodpecker went at our stump, just flinging bits of wood everywhere. :D

Tex - love the stump art, that is just so special. I'm so glad you've been able to keep it with you. :huggie:

Carolyn - you are a warm cup of coco on a cold winter day. I love that you bring such joy to others with your nursing home visits.

Scott - I use a mix of black sunflower seed, peanut chips, millet, safflower and other seeds in my bird feeders. The squirrels really love the back sunflower and peanuts. I do scatter a wild life mix on the ground for the squirrels and crows. It has dried peas, dried corn, whole and shelled peanuts, and black sunflower seed. Ground feeding birds, squirrels, crows, and deer all go for it.

Hugs all around, :grhug:

Announcement

Hi everyone!

Our tech person tried to update the forum software last night, and it didn't go as planned. Fortunately he had a backup from yesterday morning, and was able to restore that, so we only lost the posts from yesterday. But we did lose a day's work - and we are sorry for that.

He has been doing more research, and thinks he understands what went wrong, and we really do need to do the update, so he may be trying again tonight or tomorrow night. As before, we expect the forum to be offline for perhaps an hour or two while the update loads - and we both have our fingers crossed that things will go smoothly and everything will be back to normal.

If we have any news while the update is going on, we'll be posting it on our backup WildlifeCamWatch forum here - http://www.wildlifecamwatch.com/viewtop ... 1544#p1544; you don't need to register there to read the updates.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. :ty:

The easiest way to post the date Naoma is to just go back to the last one, click "Post Reply", copy the date part then cancel your post. When you make your new post you paste what you copied then update it to the proper day and date. :)
I kept a template of Jean's greeting so I just need to change the day and date.

I remember you posted two SWFL s'caps last Iona but not sure what was before that.
