Good Morning All

Nightowl - :w00t: It must have been a sight you trying to salt a bird. Love it. :rh: Squirrel inside the cage  I had a supposedly squirrel proof feeder once. The perch was a bar that would close of the feeding holes if something heavier than a bird got on it. Well the squirrel couldn't get into the holes, so he decided to chew a new one. The thing was made of thick aluminum and I don't know how long he chewed at the top, but he finally did chew a hole through about 2 inches of metal.

Ah, squirrels. My granddaddy loved them. When we used to visit, he would have bags of California walnuts; but we weren't allowed to have any he bought them just for his squirrels. His back yard was facing right up to the local park and he used to go sit out in the yard and hold out walnuts and the squirrels would climb on his lap and take them and even eat them on his lap. He was so patient in training them, and he loved them all. Us grand-kids got lots of other treats so not having the walnuts wasn't too much of a disappointment.

Carolyn - a pileated on your feeder wow, mine have never been so brave. Awesome!

Tex - my bird posts have a special baffle on them that keeps the squirrels and raccoons from being able to climb them, and the hooks are up high, so I've never had a problem with raccoons or squirrels just bears. :grlol; I'll get a pic this weekend and post. No matter what you do to your garden, I'm certain it will be beautiful. :huggie:

Phew.....When we had a bird feeder that determined by weight what should or should not go on it, the raccoons always managed to hurt it, foil the battery. Now we have a simpler one that is amazing. Only birds go on it. My favorite are the cardinals and they nest nearby. We have a ton of trees around here so that makes for good nesting.

I think though the best and most fascinating sight I ever had was a hawk on the top of our umbrella. I do not remember what kind. At any rate it sat stock still, no movement, and waited. It was the time of year when we have flocks of birds come through, they also were quiet, not moving, until......one did, Hawk snatched and that was that.

The stories here are fun.....thanks all!

Nice story about your granddad and the squirrels Pat. :)
I've had a rodent chew through wire mesh which I didn't think was possible but your squirrel surpassed that. Your feeder must be filled with something it really wanted.

Cool vid of the Pileated showing some action elle. :)

Iona, great close up s'caps of the eagles.
I hope you are prepared for the big winter storm that looks to be coming your way.

You too, wind, I see it's forecase to come thru there too.
Great childhood memories. :)

Nightowl, :D @ the squirrel as long as all was well.
I saw either a Downy or Hairy in the tree today; couldn't see good enough to tell which.

I notice the small birds eat more frequently at the Sq. Feeder than the cardinals, Scott. I'm sure it also depends on whether there's any scattered seed around.
You're training your squirrel, :D

Carolyn, always an interesting way with words. :)
I too enjoy the wildlife recaps of yard or area activity.

I enjoyed your Pileated vid today elle :thumlft:

JuD, I plan to check out Frankie & Gracie this weekend. :)

:bye 1: for now

Sunday Evening Hugs All

Iona,
glad you are prepared. Hope the snow/cold fades quickly.

Finally to freeze here tonight. Coolish windy day. Nothing unpleasant so far. I know you guys think I'm crazy for missing the real winter but I do. I guess bad weather here is mostly rain/storms In its season.

Scott, what polar vortex storm is the PacNW preparing for you/us now ? :)
