Thanks for the Trainer Talk vid Iona. :)

A short video of the Sharp-shinned Hawk that was hunting in my yard this morning.
I heard what sounded like a bird strike on my window while reading the paper so went to have a look. Patio blinds are kept partially closed to prevent this.
There was a hawk sitting on the railing and didn't fly off when it saw me which is very unusual. I opened the blinds fully to see what it was looking at and there was a sparrow as close as it could possibly get pressed against the patio door. I waved at the hawk but it wouldn't fly off so figured I'd slowly open the sliding door to see if I could pick up the sparrow. It flew off with the hawk quickly after it. The sparrow must have landed in my pear tree as the hawk landed on my neighbors patio and scanned the area. If it was going
to hang around I figured getting my camera would be a good idea.

The hawk walked along the railing getting closer to me and it's potential meal then flew even closer. It eventually landed under the pear tree and walked around for a couple minutes before flying to the bird bath. From there it flew into the pear tree then back to my neighbor's deck with no meal. A few minutes later it flew off. It was a nice up close encounter for me and no harm to that sparrow. :)

Wow, Scott! That is fantastic to see and to hear the sparrow got away is great. Your pictures are outstanding. That it came so close to you, intent upon its prey, it unreal. Thank you.

Iona, as always thanks for your updates on the pups. My Andi is loving the cooler weather we are now having and chases pine cones on our walks, which get kicked like a ball. She retrieves it and brings it back, if it is one of her liking, if not abandons it for another.

Friday, the 15th was my birthday and an extraordinary day.....so many things were almost magical that just kept happening. That was a lovely blessing.

Judi, I hope your family members recover from Covid, it is nasty.

All of you since you are "up North" enjoy your Fall colors, I do miss that. We have had some "belated" plant failings from our last winter deep freeze and took them out to put in new. That be all for now....

Belated Happy Birthday Carolyn. :)
Thanks about the hawk pics. It was cool having it stay so close. The eyes are still yellow but will turn orange, then red as it ages.

Thank you Scott and Iona.....you are the best. Interesting about the hawk's eyes Scott. We have a little glass feeder with sunflower seeds in it and the cardinals love to come perch by it and enjoy. Also wrens, chickadees, it was one of the best investments ever. I figured it would be knocked over but it does not and I get to see all the gorgeous birds fly in to have a snack. :)

That was sad about Braveheart......I remember last year something was up but nothing said. RIP wonderful bear. Thank you for the bear education received here through Dr. Lynn, it has been eye opening.
Have a happy Monday,
carolyn

Hoping my new laptop comes soon. Can't wait to follow the nests again, and this old one isn't cooperating.

Love and hugs to all

I always find it interesting watching the sparrows, finches, and juncos at the feeders and on the ground with their pecking order squabbles to see who feeds first or has the best spot no matter how much space or seed there is Carolyn. :)
The chickadees quickly go to any available feeder spot, grab a seed, then back to the pear tree to eat, then repeat the process until they've had enough. The Bushtits just mob a suet cake and seem to take turns without the drama.
It was sad hearing about Braveheart. Hopefully all the regulars will turn up next spring.

Thanks for the SWFL vid Iona. :)
