Very high heat index in south florida today. Up to 105-106 degrees F. Harriet and M are in an area closer to the ocean and hopefully out of the high heat. Glad my aunt is up here for the summer and out that area. Stay safe south Florida. The heat is high.

Tomorrow the heat index for H&M in north fort myers will be 104 or near there. Go to the pond Harriet. Much to hot for humans or birds.

Red tailed Hawklet in Nest with Adult Bald Eagle
It was fun to watch a little interaction between the adult bald eagle & the red-tailed hawklet this morning! Both eaglets & the hawklet look fantastic! It was a warm morning out there, over 80 degrees at 8:45 am! Temps are expected to reach 100 degrees today in Northern California!

:eag:

I am so excited. I missed most of May for eagle watching: Mere & Pere's nest.
After all the losses and incidents at the other nests we watch I worried something had happened to their nest too.
I was close to Refuge so took my lunch out to the lake. Fortunately I had brought my good camera and binoculars, but didn't expect to see any eagles. I was only parked for a few minutes when . . . is it a vulture? Is it a juvenile?
It is "Chance Magnific" making an awkward landing on The Eagle Tree.
Note: Philjo helps me with names ;)

This is my first season of pics of a "juvie" away from the nest after fledging.
1st pic shows his markings better.
He likes to "pose" just like his father, Pere.
Time/date stamp accurate.

Driving home I was happy as a lark, when on the radio they play "Fly LIke an Eagle" Then, when I change stations, it is the band "The Eagles" playing . . .I am not making this up.

Sunnybird, so glad you experienced seeing the fledgling. Great photos - thanks for sharing!

Philjo, thanks for the videos of Tuffy, the hawklet.

I walked through a beautiful sculpture garden yesterday where I enjoyed several sculptures of eagles.

very cute juvie Sunnybird! :rh:

thank you Philippe for the Decorah news, the adorable Tuffy :luck:

In Smola everything is fine. they're 8,5 weeks old and are self feeding like a pro, defeathering preys, talking, beaking and being as cute as they could be.
plus wingers and hops. we think branching should happen soon, fledge ~ 20 days.
Food can be scarce especially for #2. he's eating a lot of bones. we call him our sword swallower :w00t: . but he's developing great.
we still don't know their gender...

Hawklet with Eagle Family~Early Morning Feeding
We had a very early morning visit to the Eagle's nest today! A local Reporter was doing a story on this wonderful but rare occurrence in nature! She agreed to keep the location secret to help protect the birds! Sorry about the talking in the background she had a few questions for me & she didn't realize I was shooting a few videos for my own documentation, Tuffy & the 2 eaglets looked great! They all got fed so that was great to see!

~ Changes in the “nursery” ~
The eaglet nestlings are growing! Two of the three in the nursery are perching. This is the equivalent to branching. These young eagles are learning to socialize with others. They are eating normal eagle food - on Monday the 24th, together they ate a 3-pound carp! This is exactly what Kay expects to see!
Today, 26 June 2019, another hatch-year 2019 eaglet was moved to the nursery. "Calmar" was rescued and admitted 12 June 2019. Like the others, this youngster was very thin and covered with gnat bites. Calmar is a male and now weighs 7.5 pounds, up one pound from admit.
The next milestone? Kay will be watching for signs of flight!
Remember to check out https://soarraptors.org/patients/ for some of our other admits and their care.
