More info from USFWS on Condor #247. His most recent territory is in Lockwood Canyon, which is only a few miles (as the condor flies) away from Huttons Bowl! The interactions we've seen do appear to be territorial, but hopefully they won't deter #1075 from successfully fledging.
On Tuesday, territorial interactions between the Hutton’s Bowl condors and #247, a male from a nearby canyon, resulted in the chick disappearing from the view of any of the cameras. As of the morning of Oct. 13, we have not seen the chick back in the nest cavity.

Condor Cam @CornellCondors
On Wednesday, USFWS and Santa Barbara Zoo biologists located condor chick #1075 in the canyon below the Huttons Bowl nesting cave. They retrieved the chick and transferred it to the care of veterinarians and keepers at the Los Angeles Zoo.
Staff there are still evaluating the extent of any possible injuries and the chick is receiving treatment. Given the events, the Huttons Bowl Condor Cam will be offline for the rest of the season.
It’s a bittersweet ending, but we’re thankful for the field team’s quick action and to our cam partners and volunteers for helping us share the lives of the magnificent California Condor with the world. We will provide updates on #1075’s status as we get more information.

Recap and Update
https://www.facebook.com/TheCondorCave/ ... 7566719125
... California condor chick #1075 hatched on April 10. Its parents are female condor #594 and male condor #374. This was the pair’s first nesting attempt together.
Unfortunately, condor #374 was recovered earlier this year after his GPS unit stopped transmitting locations and biologists picked up mortality signals from his radio transmitter.
The cause of death for #374 is still pending.
Condor #594 was seen visiting the nest a couple of times over the days following the evacuation and appears healthy and unharmed on camera. ...

Condor Cam @CornellCondors
(Part 2): The non-parental male, condor 247, was first seen harassing the chick above the nest cavity on October 11. Condor 594, the remaining female parent of chick 1075, attempted to protect the chick and their nest from condor 247.
(Part 3): However, on the evening of October 12, condor 247 pulled chick 1075 out of its nest and out of view from the nest cameras.
(Part 4): Biologists were able to locate and transport the chick to the Los Angeles Zoo to receive expert evaluation and care from their veterinarian staff and keepers.
(Part 5): Part 5): The Huttons Bowl chick is currently undergoing treatment and is being assessed for further improvement before making any definitive prognoses. As chick 1075 has been evacuated, the condor cams will remain turned off for the remaining of the season.

This world was too hard for it. #1075 had a last breath, a last thought to its mother #594 and finally the young condor took off his coat and his soul flew to the heavens where he was welcome by its wide wings opened father #374. RIP "Merveilleux et trop Jeune" condor😢💔🙏

Poor little one !!
This tag.. it's so sad.
fly free with the wings of an angel #1075 :cry1: :brknhrt: :cryhanky:

To continue with the bad news, we expect the worst for Yurruga, the Orange eyas. After his fledge he was seen during a few days but hasn't been seen since last thursday 27th November (time the falcon family faced a terrible storm and weather).
Xavier and Diamond behaviour is unusual with parents raising a juvie :(

Cam Manager Cilla Kinross has been trying to find him every day, everywhere without success. She's giving a small week more but everyone feels it's the end.
Not only did the family have only one chick to raise (2 eggs didn't hatch), but now this.
The bond between Yurruga and Mom was very strong and beautiful :cry1:

Update on Hutton's Bowl condors:

We’re saddened to report that the chick, condor #1075, died at the Los Angeles Zoo on November 12 while undergoing treatment for injuries associated with territorial aggression at the nest site by the non-parent adult male condor #247.
Condor chick #1075 was sent to the San Diego Zoo for necropsy and pathological examination following his death. USFWS has not yet received an official necropsy report but we will share results when the necropsy is completed.
As we reported in September, the male condor parent featured on the Condor Cam, condor #375, also died unexpectedly during the breeding season. USFWS has received the final pathology report & unfortunately the cause of death could not be determined due to advanced decomposition.
The female condor from Hutton's Bowl, condor #594, has still been seen flying around Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge, despite not having working radio or GPS transmitters.
We thank our dedicated followers for your passion and patience as we await definitive information regarding the cause of death for condor chick #1075. We will continue to share information as it is received.

What suffering you had to endure my young friend, maybe you were doing the hardest since your condition seemed to improve, slowly, maybe too slowly for your own hope one day to be able to fly freely. Rest in peace sweet angel. :rh: :cry1:

It was a beautiful and emotionnal release !
as soon as Iniko flew off her cage she went straight to the food and started to eat :D
I wish her the happiest and best life with her buddies Rachel and Dian, and all the condors.

The sad point is that it was said #1075 died of lead poisoning...
Something must really be done to avoid these horrible poisonings of raptors !

Just waiting for the next chapter the meeting Daughter/Mother with Redwood Queen. Iniko spent her first six months of life with her then more than one year separated for her mother.
do they have fond memories deep in their hearts? I hope too much or that just a visual impression or a familiar sound is enough ... that would be the icing on the cake : luck:

Post-release Update 12/6/2021

Dian Fossey (1011), Iniko (1031), and Rachel Carson (1042) were successfully released on December 4th (in that order). We thought Iniko would be the first to go, but Dian made the first leap toward freedom followed quickly by Iniko. Rachel took her time and came out about an hour later. They join Jane Goodall, Jan Hamber and Rosalie Barrrow Edge, who were eager to reconnect with their old flight pen pals. More good news, all three of the newbies roosted together off the ground their first night.

For Iniko, this marked the start of a new chapter in her life. Iniko's long road back to the wild almost ended before it started when 729 "Ninja" attacked her back in October 2020, injuring her leg. After a successful rescue, she fully recovered thanks to the care of the LA Zoo condor crew. She was transferred to San Simeon mid-October to join 5 other amazing female pre-release condors.

After the Dolan Fire of 2020 and other setbacks from lead poisoning deaths, the flock dropped to 79 in early 2021. However, the condors, with their trademark resiliency, never gave up and kept pushing forward. They fledged 6 condors in the wild in 2021, increasing the flock to 85. The release of Iniko, Jane, Jan, Rachel, Dian, and Rosalie boosted the central California flock even further to 91 condors!

Thank you Explore viewers for being part of Iniko's journey and for your unwavering support of California condors.

If you missed the release, you can watch it here- https://youtu.be/a1Wc1r-hu_I

Join us at our next zoom chat on December 16, 2021 @ 4pm PST for updates on Iniko and the rest of the flock! sign up at www.ventanaws.org

Thank you Everyone!

PS- This is the time of year when untagged wild chicks start showing up with mom and dad on the Big Sur cam. The pairs with untagged chicks are Nomad/574 & Miracle/538 (Chick 1104), Ferdinand/652 7 550 (Chick 1095), and Amigo/204 & Kodama/646 (Chick 1089). We believe Junipero/663, who is solo parenting with a leg injury, is still tending to his chick 1077.

Junipero #663 was first seen with an injured foot on September 13th.
It appears that his left leg is lost by now.
He is having a hard time competing with other dominant condors at the feeding site. We do not see him often on the Big Sur camera. The most recent previous sighting was on October 25th.
Having lost his mate #438, Junipero is currently rearing a wild chick #1077 as a solo parent. Their nest is located in a very remote part of the Big Sur back-country.
