"This breeding season has brought mixed news. SE25 successfully fledged and left the nest however SE26 was noted to have a malformed right leg during its development. This didn’t hinder SE26's growth or ongoing development, successfully fledging and leaving the nest, only returning at times to be fed by the parents.
On Saturday 14th November SE26 flew into a semi-enclosed balcony on the 22nd floor of a local unit block. Due to the enclosed nature of the balcony and furniture SE26 could not take off again. The resident contacted WIRES for assistance. WIRES volunteers removed the bird from the balcony and it has now been assessed by a local emergency and Taronga Zoo vets.
Examinations over the last few days found SE26 has a poorly healed fracture of the right leg. There are also extensive injuries to the left leg, likely caused by overcompensating to support the right leg. SE26 is in pain from its injuries. Unfortunately surgery is not possible and amputation is not an option either since Sea Eagles require both legs to support themselves on the ground and to hunt.
On welfare grounds the hard decision to euthanize SE26 has been reached. SE26 would not survive in the wild or do well in captivity. Further complications are likely to develop even in the short term.”

I know she already forgave you cause you need it so much guilties as you are. Laws that promote cruelty against animals are not good laws. Poor little SE26, why let you growing so much and a so long time if it's only to killed you at the end. On a scale of Pain, what was the value for SE26 ? Nobody can answer.. RIP sweet darling and i'm sure SE19, SE22, SE23, and SE25 were with you at this sadness and awful moment. I said them i knew how it was going to end for you. but Specialists have always the last and good word. "balivernes"!. Time to dry my tears and let you go. Love you so much

What a shame!
I'm sick of always being right .... Don't look for excuses, you don't have any. You are just good at taking advantage of an eagle family to collect donations for saving but in fact when you have the opportunity to do so you don't even do what is necessary .... Poor SE26, and worst it is because he has already forgiven us, poor human beings that we are. Lucky for him, he found his buddy SE25 because at one point you have to stop luring people, a bird of prey that disappears so young without having learned the necessary to survive, it happened to him something serious, very serious. Another chance that SE23's body was found last year because you would certainly have told us the same thing.
I can understand natural deaths, siblicides or the like, but inaction, cruelty to animals and lies very little for me.

In fact, for the second (not posted on Sea.EagleCAM fb page) I would have agreed to be banned but with an explanatory message. Not just erased like that or may be they have nothing to say to me against what i wrote and in fact "All truth is not good to say"

no fracture was seen on the baby but because hes slightly underweight they're giving him antibiotics for trichomoniasis. the parasite that killed many Melbourne peregrine falcons

he doesnt fly

I agree with you Sunnybird.

The problem here is that after 113 days of life Her end could not be different ... and I understand it since there was only this solution. I would not wish for a life in a cage for her since in fact it would have been impossible (once her motor skills were lost). What I do not understand is the non-responsiveness of those in charge while SE26 has only suffered during the last 100 days.

In fact human law, human non-intervention are the causes of this disaster.
SE26 was condemned from birth by human law. Is this normal? Those who knew, they lied to us by giving us hope. SE26 was killed because at the end we could no longer act for her, give her a life worthy of a wild bird and to stop her suffering.
Yet it seems to me that this suffering that we saw day after day did not bother anyone since we left her in this state which inevitably never got better since in fact her pain worsened until it was no longer possible to save her.
Conclusion, humanity and human laws kill wildlife. You have to ask the right questions. Don't all lives have the same values?
We are told that human intervention is only possible if the risk or problem is man-made.
Bad human law, which should be used to protect wildlife and indeed who does not, is not a man-made problem?

I'll just add that lady hawk, with her huge experience of raptors and all the sad things happening around, think that these nest rules are the worst- along with estonian golden eagle nest.

Something should have been done as they noticed something was wrong from the beginning, even if now they say they didn't know

But it's too late. Another eaglet lost by human fault.

When I see what's happening with baby izzi in Orange, all the care he gets... it's so unfair for se26.

Talking about the little falcon he will take another ride on project manager Cilla Kinross back and will be returned to his home tomorrow morning- tonight my time lol.

It shouldn't be a problem with his parents- fingers crossed.

Solly is the central one, Dew is the poor left one, submissive position.

Dew, it's time to fledge now as i remember one of your older sibling, Stevie, a couple of years ago who finished in a rehab center after the older pushed him outside the nest to the water. It died a not so long time after. Rip Steve.

Well beautiful things happen too in Australia. Izzi the Peregrine falcon was brought home and his parents acknowledge his come back, bringing him much food !

2020 11 27 1025 Izzi's final hope fledge
Izzy flew off at 1025. Looked like a clean flight. He was later seen roof-hopping around the university campus and at 2.50 pm made it to the top of the tower! That's quite a flight. I expect to see him back in the box (under his own steam) within a few days and, if not, I'll find him and get some photos in the field.

Welcome! This thread started as a continuation of the EAGLE Chatters Nest thread on our old forum, which was initially a place for folks who followed the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam to have more relaxed discussions about the eagles and other things, since we do try to keep the observation threads for all the nests focused on what's happening with the eagles or other wildlife being observed.

The focus has changed over time, and it's now my pleasure to announce The Wildlife Corner!

This thread is the Eagle Chatters thread with a new name, and a revised statement of purpose.
