You are :hi: Mimi and eagleslanding !

I don't know if you heard about the Pot Plant Owl Family from South Africa , Johannesburg. (Merci Pascale to recall me that nest..)

All the family 2 adults, 2 owlets were confronted with "Trichomonas"** after they ate an infected dove.

Doves and pidgeons are killing the urban owls

Tragically, this in one of the last videos of the 'Adopted' chicks. Taken on 30 Dec. They are feeding on a Laughing Dove that has been brought to them by Lady, the female. The dove was infected with a deadly disease. One of the chicks succumbed on 3 Jan, the other is currently fighting for its life at a specialist Avian Vet. Lady has not been seen for 5 days
posting.php?mode=reply&f=39&t=219

Jan 3rd, the two owlets were at the veterinary to be treated against trich.
Jan 4th the first one died
Jan 6th the second chicks died (Dad was seen in a tree with already a closed eye. so infected too.)
They are trying to capture at least Pappa but not done yet and no signs yet of Lady

**This is the same infection which killed Cotoonball, Snowflakes, Fluffy and Flappy the falconets from Melbourne, and also SE21 the sea eagle from Sydney got it but was able to be well treated after her accident.

Just an image from 2018 Dec 21st, Lady and her two adopted owlets. It was still the " Happy Days ".

Nestfriend - LOL - National Bobblehead Day
I think other people have a different definition than we do, such as: This day recognizes a day of celebration for all spring-connected head bobbing figurines. However, have to agree with you our feathered bobbleheads do a good impression of the head bobbing figurines. Our little bobbleheads are just the best!

Oh, Phil, so sorry to hear about the Pot Plant Owls. I've been following their story, and it was so precious in how they were adopted. So sorry that it sounds like they all have succumbed to that awful disease. The people that own that house must be distraught.

I'll leave you all with a nice image - I thought I saw maybe an eagle perching on something in the lake, and soon that "something" flew off and was indeed a bald eagle. Another BE also launched off of the same perch. They both flew over to their favorite old tree; I got to see them land on the tree! It was such an unexpected and delightful sighting of this local pair!

I have seen the pot owls on hancock but never followed them but seeing your your photo's I wish I would have. They are adorable. So sorry for the disease.

On the other hand on Dec. 20 did you hear about the meteotsunami on the coast of fort myers. Sanibel island. Actually rough all the way down to Naples Florida. Google meteotsunami fort myers. Very rare.

on NEFL nest, one male was identified as being Samson, one of Romeo and Juliet offspring of 2013. his ID was done by an injury he had when he was a nestling, on his middle right toe (source : Gretchen, AEF mod)
and yes his sister was Delilah who came to the nest last year !
lots of activity here... don't know if it's positive though

Philjo, thanks for sharing the photos of Bailey. She is so beautiful, and I am so glad she is being well taken care of.

Pascale, rejoicing with Ma and Pa Berry on their 1st egg. She will most likely lay one more.

It's really like "As the Nest Turns" at NEFL. It sounds like those in the know really do think the male is Samson, offspring of Romeo & Juliet. And the female that has been in the nest with him has not been seen since Monday, and they are talking about a new female in the nest now. I do hope Samson settles on a good mate, and that the two of them will bring some new joy and happiness to the NEFL family.

Last news from yesterday
Pot Plant Owl
19 h ·
Rescue efforts to catch Pappa have been unsuccessful because he's been flying too well.
Unfortunately Pappa has now disappeared. Every effort is being made to find him. The local newspaper has run a story about Pappa so the whole community is involved. I'll keep you all posted.

Trich is often spread by contaminated food and water sources. Must find the contaminated source to eradicate the trichomonas. Someone not properly cleaning a feeding area or a bird bath. Who knows?

I so enjoy everyone's posts and updates. I do like "our name" "The E9 Bunch"
Thank you MinnaNH.
Thank you, Eaglelanding for the "rogue eagle" at the stadium and the follow ups. All is well.

Idle Eagle thought: I got tired of WIN 10 telling me what to look at on my screen (background) so I finally figured out how to change it. No, it isn't like it use to be. . . .Anyway, in frustration I finally got the right steps, and guess what Nestfriend? I am using your SCAP of E9! The "Still looking for Me" one.
So, E9 greets me every morning when I log on to check on E12 & E13!

Talk about contamination. I planted my juniper bushes in my back yard long time ago. One day I went out this orange rusty goo was on alot of my jumpers. I took a sample to my local nursery. They stated I had apple rust disease. If there is a diseased crabapple tree in the area the spores or disease will spread through the area. Latches onto Junipers. Thus the rusty orange goo. They said it would not kill my bushes. But it looked so awful I cut the orange goo out. My bushes are ok now and their nice shape has returned. So nature must be kept in order too. Someone was not keeping their crabapple tree in a healthy state within a certain vicinity of my junipers.
