Happy New Year
Bonne et Heureuse Année 2024
Welcome to E23, 7yrs after E9, i'm so sorry for the second one who tried so strongly but ... no birth, no death...
Good news coming from Louisiana
KNF E-1 - 2023-12-31 - Anna gets grounded and rescued
KISATCHIE NATIONAL FOREST
Kisatchie National Forest E-1: Anna flew into the nest area and the intruder female that was in the nest tree flew out after her. Anna turned to "go talons up" with the intruder. Anna was spun around to being back upright but was too close to the trees and tumbled through the brush. The female intruder ended up landing in a tree right near where Anna went down. The female intruder flew off to the left. Anna finally "popped" out of the brush onto the forest floor. Cody looked for her using the canopy cam but was not able to locate her. Cody, his wife, and Steve went out to the nest area in the dark and were able to locate her and capture her. She is now "in hand" and will be brought to the best place in the state for care first thing in the morning. Cody has confirmed using distinctive ID markers that this bird is 100% Anna.

Again some bad news and now this is the turn of Anna
So sad for Louis who doesn't know like Alex at his time, after Andria, this is the turn of the poor Anna. RIP Madame,
Louis is still incubating and still waiting for the return or his beloved mate

From Ventana Wildlife Society, https://www.facebook.com/VentanaWildlifeSociety
In this game camera footage captured at our Big Sur Sanctuary, Iniko (1031) approaches a carcass with utmost caution, keeping a respectful distance from the Golden Eagle. Unlike the daring moves by Pinnacles National Park Condor (745) in our last post, Iniko (1031) displays a more cautious demeanor. It's incredible to see the unique personalities among our condor friends!
While Iniko (1031)’s approach towards the eagle is indeed cautious, don't think for a second that this reflects her behavior towards fellow condors. Iniko (1031) has an extraordinary survival story, bravely enduring a major wildfire and being thrown out of her nest by the intruding condor, Ninja (729), during her chick days. We believe it is this journey, coupled with the genes passed down by dominant parents Redwood Queen (190) and Kingpin (167) , that have molded her into the assertive, young condor we see today, giving her a dominant edge within the hierarchy!

Good Morning! Today is National Save the Eagles Day!! Here's a bit of history about this day!
HISTORY OF NATIONAL SAVE THE EAGLES DAY
"Eagles are among the strongest and most magnificent birds of prey. Bald eagles are so special that they are celebrated as the symbol of strength, independence, and beauty in the U.S. The history of the National Save the Eagles Day is an inspiring story. It started in the village of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. It was mid-winter, the perfect nesting season for bald eagles, and a pair of eagles, fondly named Alice and Al, had nested along Overpeck Creek since 2011.
In 2014, Skymark Development Corporation of Paramus highlighted a study stating that a landfill near an eagles’ nest posed community health risks. As a part of the solution to mitigate the local health risks, they argued to remove the tree the eagles nested in. When this announcement was made public, the local community and the Bergen County Audubon Society organized Save The Eagles Day on January 10, 2015.
Soon, an agreement was reached between both sides to preserve the part of the land as eagle park. Alice and Al continued to nest in the same location and lived there for several years, and today there is a new pair that made their home in the same nest.
Today there are many laws such as the Endangered Species Act that protect the welfare of eagles. Due to the continued effort of conservationists and the government, many species of eagles that were on the verge of extinction are now increasing in numbers. So let’s celebrate, save and support the welfare of eagles on this inspiring day."
