Re: EAGLE Chatters Nest
A big day in Decorah as D35 fludged this morning and D36 fledged this evening.
D35 seemed to lose his/her balance as the moved on the skywalk and fell to the ground; they then flew to a stump and later flew off the stump very well, so they appear to be okay.

Re: EAGLE Chatters Nest
hi Lannie, there was an issue between mom D and D36. I hope both are ok !
O
From RRP
This evening Mom brought prey to the nest to feed D36. But 36 had fledged and was on a branch in a nearby tree. She took the prey in her talons and flew off from the nest but then returned with the prey. Meantime D36 was squeeing. My personal feeling is that mom took the first flight to coax D36 to follow her back to the nest. But he didn't. Mom left the nest with the prey again. The view shifted to D36 on the branch. D36 was on the end of a broken off limb it appeared. It seemed Mom tried to bring the prey to D36 on the branch and he tried to take it or hold on to her. It was turning dark and it was hard to make things out. It appeared at one point 36 was standing on her. She fell first. D36 held on for a while before falling also. At first D36 was hanging upside down holding on, and then he fell. It appeared to me in slo-mo that 36 may have righted itself just before going off screen. Mom appears to have been seen on a perch and she took off from it, probably to go to where D36 was. So I think she is okay. We will have to wait till morning to see what happens. There is nothing else to do. But I feel pretty confident all will be well though.
Just adding a note...Eaglets can fall like this and collect themselves during the fall and fly right off.

Hi, Pascale
Yes, an unfortunate incident. Mom seems to be just fine; I believe she fell off the branch first. Hopefully D36 is okay, too. They spotted several of the eaglets today, but were not sure who was who. Lots of rain there today, too, so hopefully tomorrow they can make some definite id's.

At Kenai Eagle nest,
Little Spurr, 20 days old, just slipped out of his nest during a feeding . Ground crew found Spurr but the little flame of life had already left Spurr's body.
Spurr is the little one on the left and you can see him 9' before the drama viewtopic.php?p=349927#p349927

Re: EAGLE Chatters Nest
The Explore webcam site for Decorah apparently has better updated info. I copied what I posted directly from them last night. Today, all three eaglets have been seen together on cam, on the skywalk, and receiving a fish from DM2.

Re: EAGLE Chatters Nest
So glad the Decorah Trio all returned to the nest and that all are well! Now, Outdoor School lessons begin as Mom and DM2 teach them all they need to know to survive well.
For those who followed AEF-NEFL this year with Samson & Gabrielle, Jules & Romy, here are a few good end of season memories:
Slide shows

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTUp42d0Fn4
It was a wonderful season until Jules never returned after fledging and Gabby seemed to disappear. Samson & Gabrielle are both such striking eagles and were exceptional first-time parents. I believe that Samson will be back, but I wish I could say the same with confidence about Gabby. I believe she would have been back to see Romy, if she had been able. I hope I am wrong. Gabby was a strong and determined Mother Eagle with great instincts; I admired her very much, a truly amazing Mom and mate.

Re: EAGLE Chatters Nest
Remember how M15 was gone for a few days (maybe 4?) when E9 left for his journey? Wasn't he gone a couple days either last year or the year before when one of the eaglets left also? After he returned, we all thought he was escorting his baby on the beginning of their journey.
I am thinking/hoping that Gabrielle may have done the same with Jules. A female eagle has been coming most nights over the last week to the lumberyard area of the Hamlet and roosting in one of Gabby's favorite spots. Gretchen has been guessing that it is Gabrielle and tonight named her as such in her tuck report.
She certainly was a very attentive first time mom, so it seems in character

Yes, Anuli's mom I remember M15 being gone also. I too felt like he was with the juvenile to make sure they were o.k.
I remember M15 rested in the nest when he came back also.
I just saw this juvenile eagle pull out the BIGGEST fish from the Mississippi River Flyway cam.
This fish was still alive also.
