Another bad news...
At great spirit bluff peregrine falcons nest...
They had 3 chicks. Youngest died 2 weeks ago due to lack of food :cry1:
On Friday night a GHO attacked the nest and took Floyd (the male chick). Nova tried to protect him and in the panic injured her second chick Elise ! GHO came back a bit later and then Elise got hurt again... Decision was made NOT to intervene to check on injuries (and eventually save her from another attack). Night from Saturday to Sunday was safe.
Yesterday Elise was fed and looked OK, flapping ok.
Tonight I saw the GHO coming back first and I was scared to hell not seeing a parent close. The GHO flew away and came back, sitting on the perch on the side of the nest. No sign of Nova or Newman (male mate). Anywhere.
GHO left and came back to take Elise. Now the nest box is empty. :cryhanky: :cryhanky:
I know it's nature... but this is too awful to me ! this baby didn't deserve to be killed like this unprotected :cry1: Nor did Floyd !
Here is a pic. Floyd in front, Elise in the back. RIP little ones floyd Elise.jpg
So sad for both falconets, Pascale. :cry1:
The parents wanted to preserve themselves as they new they will have no chance against a GHO like the osprey parents do at Hog Island where nobody stays during the night hours after several night attacks.
using the DVR
Sometime before the GHO was perched, watching a sleepy Elise then it flew away

Last image of Elise tonight, she didn't even have the time to cry :cry1:

I'm sure at this moment Floyd'spirit was with you and in your dreams little and sweet Elise

Two eagles? on far right, mid screen watching the sun.
The audio is very good and you can hear eagle vocals, even if they are not in view.

I forgot to say

:woohoo:
At Decorah North, DN12 fledged the 06-09 at 12h02. A perfect flight at 70 days old
the same day he returned to the nest for his meal, and then spent the night branched to another tree. Now he is spending his eagle life in the valley with Mom DNF and Dad.

Hog island (Bailey and Rachel's previous nest)

Phoebe and Steve's nest

It is the second consecutive night that Phoebe (aka Lady) spent a big part of the night on her (non viable eggs, for me) after the last GHO attacks.

Tonight the GHO came back with the only aim to kill Phoebe.
Phoebe was strong enougth to leave :thumlft:

5 months ago a little eaglet in Florida perished in one terrible way, due to humans hand, the same humans who failed saving - or at least trying to save him. :cry1:
As we watch in amazement your young siblings growing and getting ready to fledge, there's no one day I'm not thinking about you e14.
your beautiful spirit and adorable face enchanted us and I can see a bit of you in e16. I can feel you in your Parents eyes, in your siblings feistiness.
But I still cry for you little one :brknhrt: :cry1:

Philjo, thanks for sharing that lovely poem about the Hamlet. Here is an interesting video, showing scenes from the Hamlet at night:

You're welcome Lanie

Last news from Dale Hollow

Good news For the Eagles, all seems fine for all 4 but the nest tree is down

Dale Hollow Eagle Cam
15 juin, 18:56 ·
PLEASE READ! We are saddened to report that the cam and nest were in the same tree! Two of our chatters visited the nest area by water this morning and the nest tree and several other trees have fallen! This happened on or near April 29th, when the cam went out! Several eagle watchers have visited the area, me included and saw the eaglets/fledglings. So they are fine. It was about time for them to have fledged, We will keep everyone updated on the future season and if and when the cam will be replaced. We will continue to post older videos/pictures, so stayed tuned. We will also post any new pics of the kids, Obey and River. We have several people who visit the area regularly. We are all saddened by this event, but nature has control, we do not. Just continue to TRUST the EAGLES!

:luck:

oh no... that's horrible :cry1:
I hate to see that...

E15 at SWFEC was knocked off by a GHO early this morning and fell straight down. I really thought the worst had happened but cams finally located her in a dead tree and then in higher branches! Strong baby.
