Tuffy was a hawk who believed he was an Eagle.
And the Eagles believed in Tuffy too.

Rachel injured at Hog Island Ospreys. 09 July 2019 video by Arlene Beech
Rachel returned to the nest with an injured leg after her chicks were banded. She is unable to feed the chicks and won't be able to fish for herself. The chicks are starting to self feed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGhgc7s-shE

In fact, if she needs may be she won't be able to defend her nest ...
If i read well that happened during the banding, she was obliged to leave the nest as guys were in her nest  and may be she made a bad meeting, (osprey, bald eagle, ..?)

Oh what a wonderful season we had. Three happy and healthy eaglets fledged into the wild. A season with more than enough food, and no bonking.

thank you Sunnybird!
Elle is #1 - right and Melle is #2 - left
None have branched... but Melle stayed 36h+ without eating yesterday. hopefully he filled his crop this morning.

Sorry for that, Yesterday evening older Hog Island chick attacked the younger...according to Lady Hawk
I almost didn't dare looking earlier today, but little one was trying to self feed. Not getting much though :cry1:
It doesn't look good, Rachel is not 100% healed, not at all... Steve feeds a little... and big sis' might get after little one

But good news for D32 :rh:

12 July 2019
This week has been eventful for D32. Tuesday, Kay and Savanna took D32 to the clinic for another x-ray. Dr Riordan was pleased with healing and said the cast should come off. The break did mend and there is additional calcification. As bones heal, the body deposits more calcium at the injury site. So far the calcification does not seem to be impacting D32's "ankle" joint. Thanks for the photos, Savanna!

Dr Riordan removed the cast, layer by layer, as Kay held D32. After one more day of crate rest and observation, D32 was showing the signs of needing a bigger space (more energy, wanting to stretch wings, gained weight). Thursday, Kay did put a bit of wrap on the right leg for some support and D32 was moved to a 10x20 enclosure. Currently, D32 does have a roomie - a HY18 bald eagle who is at a similar stage of recovery and is not ready for a larger enclosure. D32 and roomie will be monitored to make sure both are getting plenty to eat. D32's wrap will be changed in a couple days.

The bone has healed as good as we hoped for... but certainly not 100% perfect. Now comes slow recovery and rehabilitation
.

If Rachel has a broken leg, which is likely, they will have to intervine at some point. I hope they do this sooner than later. I did not know about the sibling attack :cry1: Terrible!

That is good news about D32 :rh:

Here is a happy story to help sustain us through Tuffy's loss and worry for Rachel:

Jersey City Falcon Cam ~ SISTERS REUNITED! BM/17 & BM/18 Together On Roof! 6.25.19
Lady Hawk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU78puEM2ew

Remember the falcons that were so cruelly spayed by the window washers? Two fell but were recovered and this video by our lovely Lady Hawk shows the precious reunion when one of the rehabbed chicks was placed back home on the rooftop. It is such a happy and joyous video; I am keeping it with the video of E9 winging in the rain for anytime I want a cheer-up! The baby who stayed on the roof welcomed her returning sister with an ecstatic happy dance and allopreening! It is delightful! Enjoy!
