Last Friday night, an adult Bald Eagle (22-5259) was admitted from Fort Myers unable to fly. Upon initial examination, veterinarians noted the eagle was severely dehydrated, emaciated, and overall in poor condition. Due to severely low red blood cell counts (anemia) and bruising, hospital staff were concerned for potential rodenticide poisoning. Staff administered vitamin K, pain medications, supportive fluids, antibiotics, and cleaned the bird’s wounds.
Despite IV fluids, medication, and supportive care, the eagle passed away overnight. ❤️🩹
At the request of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, we sent the eagle’s remains to University of Georgia for necropsy and toxicology testing in collaboration with the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS).

An update on the Collins St Peregrine Falcon.
Yesterday, one female of the young Collins St Peregrine Falcons that had just begun to fly was found by a member of the public yesterday (Monday 14 Nov).

Wildlife Victoria @wildlife_vic· 15 nov.
After calling Wildlife Victoria, they were guided by a Wildlife Victoria Emergency Response Operator on the transport of the falcon to the Melbourne Zoo veterinary department for assessment.

On arrival, a veterinary examination was performed, including X-rays and a blood sample, which indicated a severe injury to the spine. The bird was administered pain relief and anti-inflammatory medication so that it could rest overnight before determining next steps.

Sadly, further assessment this morning concluded the young female Peregrine Falcon had a fractured spine, irreversibly damaging its spinal cord, & the sad but kindest decision was made to euthanise. It's suspected the injury occurred when the bird collided with something while flying.

Which one ? i don't know and i don't want to know... What i'm sure, this female falconet is now inside her 🙏Dad's arms, Dad17 his real father🙏. And she was also very surrounded by all her many older brothers and sisters because this nest has many disease problems every years before the young have had time to fly away...:cry1: :brknhrt: 🙏🙏 : :cry1: :brknhrt:

BIRD FLU FOUND IN BALD EAGLE IN WEST SEATTLE..
This is really sad news for West Seattle. HPAI seems to be running a course here and Tuesday morning the latest bird to be impacted is one of the mated pair from Lincoln Park. This pair successfully fledged two eaglets this year from their nest above Colman Pool.
Washington state officials and conservationists are warning of cases of avian influenza located in West Seattle's Lincoln Park and across the state, asking people to watch for symptoms and report them in hopes of stopping the spread. "It got quiet in the summer and then during migration - September, October - we got a resurgence of it," urban conservation specialist Kersti Muul said. Muul volunteers her time to help sick and wounded birds and has been called out to several suspected cases of bird flu in recent weeks, including a bald eagle in Lincoln Park. Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, includes infections from multiple strains of viruses. They are classified into low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), which causes either no signs or mild signs of disease, and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), which is more likely to sicken and kill birds. In May of 2022, the Washington Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of avian influenza in several backyard bird flocks. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has since confirmed the disease in wild birds. A dashboard of cases can be found here. WDFW has confirmed at least 18 cases of HPAI in bald eagles, but reports there are likely more. Once the department knows one bird has been confirmed with avian influenza in an area, they mark that area as harboring infections and do not test more birds in the same vicinity. In addition, birds in untested areas may die from the illness before being found and tested. But bald eagles are just one in a number of bird species in which HPAI has been detected. Whatcom County recently saw a die-off in geese. READ THE FULL STORY: https://www.king5.com/article/tech/scie ... e3aaac98f4

Orange falcons is my favourite PF nest. You can imagine how devastated I am.
2 years ago Izzi young sibling died at 3 days old, being unable to sit and eat :(
Last year Yurruga died after fledging, after an horrific storm :cry1:
Rubus hatched 4,5 days after his big sibling indigo. Being so little he was so feisty and willing to live that most of the time he stood up in front of indigo (who was one of the most nice sibling I've ever seen !), Screaming at the top of his lungs to get food. He started mantling, stealing, self feeding before indigo.
But he could do nothing with bad luck. His fledge was a tumble and though he was seen from ground and even "rescued" after being seen near the road he was seen flying.
The worst is that many chatters, even Project manager Cilla Kinross thought he was seen near and in the box but clearly all these times it was indigo. I don't blame anyone, we all wanted rubus to make it. And I know how difficult it is for everyone to deal with this loss. Now the box seems half empty... But I'm very happy to see indigo doing incredibly well.
I picture Rubus being welcomed by Yurruga and 2020 chick #2 and all these beautiful souls sitting on Indigo shoulders to enjoy his amazing flights and food.
See you in another world Rubus. ❤️😓

I still want to keep hope for Samson :rh: , but had to stop reading the chat as fake information is given all the time.

For those who are aware of these problems

i read them this morning at 05h35 from the Berry College Eagles Chat https://www.berry.edu/eaglecam/approach

1/ PatchyJoe: Wanted to pay tribute to Papa G'Ho who passed away yesterday at the Wildlife center of Virginia. Papa lived there and worked there for 21 years as a GHO surrogate and raised 53 great horned owlets. https://www.wildlifecenter.org/news_eve ... e-papa-gho

Rest in peace, Papa. Thank you for your years of service.
Saying Goodbye to Papa G'Ho | The Wildlife Center of Virginia

2/ PatchyJoe: The newest update on Rita the female eagle from the Miami cam is a poor prognosis for a successful healing of her wing that she had surgery on yesterday for the compound fracture d/t lack of circulation from the trauma she sustained. They are still fighting for her with ATB'S, pain meds, acupuncture, etc., but she most likely will never fly again.

3/ PatchyJoe: And lastly, the female peregrine falcon from the Harrisburg cam who I showed you pictures of with a severely dislocated shoulder months ago, also passed away yesterday unexpectedly. She had slowly shown steady improvement and even did well as a wild falcon in confinement which I think took most by surprise. (THEY) attributed it to old age at 13... Her nest was my 1st cam back in 2012.

Such good news about SWFEC. Time to celebrate! ❤️🦅

Pascale and Philjo, so sorry for all the recent sadness. Nature is so hard.
Best wishes,

Peggy :)
