Sue, your pictures are beautiful!!! Boy, that young one is growing up. Know you must be proud to see the eaglet make such great progress.

Thanks Sandy! Yes he is growing up and should be flying off soon.....I guess I should get back over there before that happens.
Re: Old Golf Course Nest - LE091 - Cape Coral FL 2019 - 2020
3/28/2020 - We went to the nest yesterday (Saturday) and as we were driving up there were two large birds flying around the nest tower and going back and forth....unfortunately we could not get out of the car fast enough to capture them so not sure what or who they were. We could see that no one was on the nest platform so the eaglet had fledged.
By the time we were able to get to the tower the birds that were flying around were gone. Shortly after an Osprey came flying around the area.

3/28/2020 - about 15 minutes or so after we arrived one of the adults flew in....could hear them calling out and was hoping that the fledgling would be right behind them, but they were not.
Re: Old Golf Course Nest - LE091 - Cape Coral FL 2019 - 2020
3/28/2020 - We waiting around for quite a while and during that time the adult did call out a couple more times but still we did not see the fledgling anywhere. Then the adult flew off the tower and headed downward. We lost him behind the big water tower that is right next to the tower. We were able to go around to another area to see a little more of the area behind the water tower but did not see the adult or the fledgling back there either.
Hoping to go back to the nest in the next couple days to see if maybe the fledgling will come back to the nest. But, actually I am hoping they don't come and sit there very long because that nest platform has no shade, and although the eaglet is fully grown, we have had record heats here, already in the 90's with hardly any clouds so hoping the eagles can perch in an area where they have some shade.
With this being the first time I have monitored nests from the ground I wasn't sure if I should name the eaglets, but now think it is appropriate to do so. And since this is my first year at this nest I would like to name this fledgling GC1 (for Golf Course)
Stay safe young one (GC1)! Happy soaring!

Not sure how I missed this earlier - but congratulations to GC1 and his/her parents! Thanks so much for your reports here, Sue - it does help to have the perspective on the area that you provide, and it does look like a great place for eagles!

Thanks Judy! I ended up not going back after my last post as we were on lockdown at that point. I would assume that the fledgling has moved on at this point but may try to get back over there in the next week just to take a look around.
Re: Old Golf Course Nest - LE091 - Cape Coral FL 2019 - 2020 - 2021
10/11/2020 - We are officially into the 2020 - 2021 season at the Old Golf Course Nest......today I went to the nest and both adults were up on the tower.....can see that some new sticks are building up on the nest as well. Rain had just come through so the eagles were just taking it easy and drying off.
I was able to get pictures of the tower from two different angles today with both eagles visible. The 3rd picture is from long range with my iphone and just posting that one to include the nest platform below as a reference for later pictures. Can also see a dove was flying by just as I was taking this picture.

10/18/2020 - We just got back from visiting the Old Golf Course Nest and were happy to see one of the adults at the tower. They seemed to be preening quite a bit. Quite breezy here today so maybe their mate was out soaring around, as they should be on such a nice day.
Took a look at the nest on that platform on the right side and looks to have some more new grasses. It shouldn't be too long before this pair starts thinking about laying those eggs......maybe sometime in the middle of November?

Sue, so tickled you are seeing the eagles return to the old golf course. Hoping for a wonderful season for these eagles and their little ones.

11/1/2020 - had gone to the nest last week but did not see either of the adults, but went again today and one was on the very top of the tower. The nest platform seems to have more sticks on it so the pair has been working on it. Shouldn't be too long before we will see the female incubating her eggs.

Happy to see your updates, Sue, and hoping for a good year for the eagles here. It's getting cold here in Maine and I don't like the time change - happy to know there's a part of the world where it's getting closer to egg-laying time!

Re: Old Golf Course Nest - LE091 - Cape Coral FL 2019 - 2020
Hi Judy! Thanks for stopping by last month and sorry I haven't been on to update my observances since the beginning of November.
Here are some updates:
11/8 - no nest visit
11/15 - went to the nest but did not see any eagles. Could see the nest was being built up though
11/22 - no nest visit
11/29 - went to the nest but again did not see any eagles....being that the nest is up high on the tower and the nest itself was being built up, if there was anyone on the nest laying down and incubating, there would be no way to see them unless they popped their head up or stood up....so it is possible that an adult could have been there but I could not see them from the ground.
12/6 - visited nest but again, no eagles seen. There were some smaller birds on the tower....and again, the nest appeared to be getting built up more.
12/13 - visited the nest on Sunday and as we were pulling up, one of the adults came flying in and landed at the top of the tower. What timing....so happy to see one of them finally! Here's a full shot of the tower showing the eagle up top, and also the nest platform below....notice the arrow down at the nest platform....there was an adult there at this time but as you can see....or not see....who could tell there was an adult there?

Re: Old Golf Course Nest - LE091 - Cape Coral FL 2019 - 2020
12/13/2020 - continued......as I was distracted by a hawk or vulture that was flying above the tower....the adult up top flew off and came down to the nest platform
And here we can see both adults on the nest....one was getting up to get ready for their break as the other was checking on the eggs
