NE Florida 2023-2024 Nest Eagles

Post by Kitcat11848 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 2:39 pm

Welcome to Season 11 of NEFL Eagles
2023-2024

This nest is in Eastern Time Zone

The nest is located about 80 feet up in a Longleaf Pine tree and was built by the resident eagles approximately 11 years ago. Through the years, the nest has grown considerably in size and weight (likely weighing close to a ton)
In order to protect the eagles and their nest, the specific location of this nest is private and cannot be disclosed.
The Female eagle is named Gabrielle ( Gabby for short) and the new male is V3. Last year's male, Samson, disappeared and several males were seen at the nest but V3 stayed and came back this season.

About Our Cams:
One 4K cam and three high-definition cams are available on this page. Three are mounted on the nest tree and provide different views of the nest. One cam is mounted on a nearby tree at a lower angle and provides a long range view of the nest tree and the canopy. If you watch for a while, you may be lucky enough to see eagles flying to and from the tree, and when the eaglets get to a certain size, you will see them begin to branch and ultimately fledge the nest.
The four video cam views are accessed by clicking on “Other Views,” located at the bottom right of the screen when hovering over the video screen. The four views will be shown at the bottom of the screen as thumbnails, and you can simply click the view you want to watch.
At night, an infrared light is turned on. The eagles cannot see this light; it is outside their visible spectrum of light. Neither can humans. If you were at the nest site, looking up at the tree at night, you would only see light from the moon or stars. The infrared light is converted into visible light (black and white) by the camera.

[*]Eggs Hatched
Beau buried #1 egg before Gabby laid #2 egg
Unfortunately #2 egg never hatched; Beau was a first time Dad and never quite had the instinct to incubate so Gabby had to do it full-time plus Beau had to, deal with intruders. Gabby had to leave the egg unattended for long stretches of time; it also could have been infertile.

MONDAY TUCK-IN: A repeat from last night.....V3 was perched again in the LY. Gabby didn't show up before I left, but it's possible she could have after. Nada at the ET either. Oh well, it's early yet, and she was at the nest at length this morning. All is fine in the Hamlet pines!
