NAMES: Berry has chosen not to name the eagles because they are wild creatures and we do not want to personalize them.

Berry College’s bald eagle couple first appeared on the main campus in the spring of 2012. Since that time, they have continued to nest in the top of a tall pine tree situated between the main entrance and the
parking lot of the Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center.
It is believed that the bald eagles remain in the area during the summer months and do not migrate as there is plentiful food available from lakes, the Berry quarry and the nearby Oostanaula River. They have occasionally been sighted at or near the nest during the summer, probably to ensure that other animals know it is occupied.

Time Line

Eagles Return:
They are here all year; they usually step up their game around the first of September, bringing sticks and starting nestorations.
It is believed the eagles remain in the area during the summer months and do not migrate as there is plentiful food available from the lakes, the Berry quarry and nearby Oostanaula River. They are occasionally sighted at or near the nest during the summer, probably to protect their area and let others know the nest is occupied and NOT FOR RENT OR SALE

Mom (Missy as some call her) and Dad returned again on September 16, 2023 for their last short vacation to start restorations; they still. might be sporadic in their visits.

Eggs Laid:
Egg#1 - 12-08-2023 @ 6:11pm
Egg #2 - 12-11-2023 @ 9:00pm

Eggs Hatch:
Sadly both eggs collapsed on Jan. 20, nothing seen in either shell. They were both probably not fertile.

2nd clutch was laid
Egg#1 - 7:11pm on Feb 17, 2024
Egg#2 - 8:05pm on Feb. 20, 2024

Egg #1 hatched - B17 3/25/2024 @ 8:05am
Egg #2 never hatched; Mom buried it in the nest March 29,2024. Not viable 39 days

Sadly, B17 died late Wednesday night/ early Thursday morning 4/10/24- 4/11/24. RIP sweet B17

Dad came to the nest at 7:06am, Missy to LYB and nest at 7:07am; both poked in the nest and moved sticks
Dad and Missy start nestorations in earnest, bringing in lots of sticks
