Martin, Rosa’s mate, was last seen on the nest Dec. 6, 2023. One visitor started adding sticks and grasses to the nest 2 days after Martin went missing. However, just as Rosa was beginning to accept this V1, a second male came along a few days later and chased off V1. A photo on the Dulles site tonight shows Rosa perched close to V2. Maybe this will be her new mate.

Big happenings this month. On Feb. 9 Rosa's new companion, V2, was given an actual name: Lewis. The eagle was named in honor of the late civil rights activist and House of Representatives member John Lewis.

On Valentine's Day, Rosa laid her first egg of the season, DG6. Lewis had been working on his incubation technique with a bone in the bole. Let's hope his diligence pays off!

Rosa and Lewis have a 2nd eggie! DG7 was laid Feb. 17 at 5:07pm.

Unfortunately Lewis has not incubated at all since the first egg was laid. Mods who monitor the cams state that this is Lewis’s first time with eggs as evidenced by his awkwardness with mating. They are confident he will get the hang of it because he has learned to roll the eggs. :luck:

Tuesday, 3/5--Welcome to the latest episode if "As The Nest Turns". Never a dull moment when the eagles are around. Lewis has definitely returned and brought a lady love to the nest. The New Male and New Female who were occupying the nest left without argument. The following was taken from the Activity Log written by Cindy (early bird):

The new lady reminds me of Harriet from the SWFL nest. She would always let M15 know of her desire with a kick to his side. This new lady is not shy about expressing her opinion about stick and grass placement. Quite a change from Rosa.

Monday, March 11--Occupancy of the nest is still up for grabs. Lewis hasn't been seen in a couple of days. The Lady he had arrived with is now keeping company with New Male who we thought had left with New Female. Now New Female hasn't been spotted, nor has Lewis. BUT several unidentified eagles have been visiting the nest along with New Male and Lewis's Lady. It's anyone's guess who will claim ownership.

April 26, 2024--Nothing exciting has happened at the nest, just the coming and going of eagles of all ages. The only 2 constants are New Lady and New Visitor. Maybe this pairing will last (no mating yet seen).
