A powerful winter storm will move into the west coast this weekend bringing widespread rain and snow state-wide. The heaviest precipitation will remain to our north, but forecast models continue to increase QPF's across Southern California, which bodes well for significant rain and snow. Fair and a smidge warmer out there today daytime temperatures reach the mid 40's, southwest winds 5-10mph. Clouds and winds will increase throughout the day tomorrow ahead of our approaching storm with southwest winds gusting to around 30mph during the afternoon, highs in the 40's. Our storm will begin rolling in late Saturday night with rain and snow showers developing. This system will once again tap into an AR, which could start things off with a little rain, but as the cold front arrives Sunday afternoon the snow level will fall to around 4,000 feet by Sunday night. Snow showers will linger into Monday with the snow level dipping as low as 3,000 feet. There is some potential for wrap-around moisture Monday that would keep snow showers lingering into the afternoon, which may boost snowfall totals. Rainfall amounts of around 0.50" are possible with several inches on the lower coastal slopes. The snow level may start out near 7,000 feet before falling rapidly to around 3,000 feet by Monday where upwards of 4-8" of snow are likely, with localized amounts near 1 foot possible. Should wrap-around moisture set up across the region, we could be increasing snowfall totals to the 6-12" range with isolated amounts of 1ft+. Lastly, this storm will be accompanied by very strong westerly winds with gusts over 50 mph possible Sunday. A Winter Storm Watch and High Wind Watch will likely be issued later today! Another strong storm is possible towards next weekend with more unsettled weather continuing off and on through the Christmas holiday.
