.. All of the viewers in chat yesterday wondered why that fish was just sitting there in the nest. Our E22 tried to take care of business with it. Have a look in Lady Hawk's video. :hlp:

This time is different--E22 not only warns 21 away but gives it a good nip!

And 21 goes submissive!

From Lady Hawk -- Mar 24, 2023 #FLORIDA #baldeagles #eagle

It seems lately that E22 has had an awakening and a light bulb went off and now it is time to show who is boss of the AC delivery! M15 flies in with a piece of armored catfish and E22 mantles and claims it. They both watch as M15 flies to the attic and then E22 will show dominance and initiate a warning to E21 that this is my fish! E21 will become submissive while E22 starts to eat. After a couple of minutes, E21 will go to the rails and remain there while E22 eats the fish. E21 had eaten from a previous fish delivery from M15 as well. When E22 had enough, it wings around the nest with exuberance and then will join E21 on the rails. Both E's opening their wings in a nice heraldic pose!

This shows great skill for survival because most of the eaglets first year will be food that is stolen from others and any carrion they may find while they work on honing their hunting and fishing skills. Thank you for watching!

M15 lost food late morning to intruder who stole it mid-air. Both eagles hit the ground. All of those people along the street side fence must have gotten good photographs of this action which took place right in front of them.

M15 found road kill turtle in West pasture and brought it to the nest. I wonder if this was what the intruder stole from M15 a little while ago.

Gosh, I hope we get some good reports of E22 defending the nest from the intruder. It was a magnificent effort.

Hi everyone,
With the slight aggression toward M on the nest this evening, I can’t remember seeing the eaglets in the past act this way towards M or Harriet , has this happened before ? Thank you in advance.

:eag: E22 was almost was pushed out of the nest by E21! :hlp:

3:52pm - E22 had a nice crop drop while laying down in the nest.
E21 was spending time perched on the Spike and then decided to drop down to the nest...(this is when the Zoomie didn't zoom over fast enough for us to see exactly what happened next.)
32423 352p 22 cdrop 21 spike 1.PNG

3:53pm - Then, somehow, E21 was over on the other side of the nest rails and...so was E22!
Here...we can see E22 struggling to stay on the nest (red dot = E22) while E21 was just to the right and behind E22.
3 24 23 354p 21 pushes 22 4.PNG

3:53pm - E22 (L) struggled and got back up onto the nest and E21 had it's mouth open while vocalizing and being aggressive towards E22!!

.. Another steal from M15. If this is the same female she is both strong and persistent--hope that M15 does not get hurt :(

There was quite an aerial battle with the intruder for the RK turtle -- scaps are from the video

From Lady Hawk -- Mar 24, 2023 #FLORIDA #baldeagles #eagle

M15 is seen flying in to the nest carrying some roadkill turtle in his talons and the female intruder is hot on his tail following back to the nest tree. While M15 is trying to get the fish into the nest, the intruder grabs onto it in mid-air and they both spiral to the ground gripping the prey (M15 is upside down as they fall). The intruder gets the turtle and M15 flies off to the front pines - he is okay! That was a hard fall he took! Then M15 goes to the pond. The intruder will fly off with the prey and take it to the west pasture to eat. Thankfully both M15 and the Intruder were not injured in this battle!

About 20 minutes later, M will go to west pasture and find some of the turtle and bring it back to the nest. The E's mantle and mob him but E22 claims it. E21 will however steal it away and begin eating it. E22 makes a couple of steal attempts but E21 keeps the prey. E22 will wait and then make another steal attempt and get the turtle remains to eat. Thank you for watching!

Hi Journi, I rewound and enlarged cam 3. It appears that E21 on the spike softly landed on E22 who was not having it. E22 moved trying to get e21 off and they both tumbled sideways in a tangle of wings to the edge with no rails. Both did a great job of staying on the nest or else we might have seen a double fludge! Maybe someone got it on video?

:eag: :ty: Anne for your clarification on what happened between E21 & E22 this afternoon! :thumlft: ~Journi

Someone on Facebook got video of E22and E21. They say a strong gust sent E21 onto nest, knocking E22. They said E21 was trying to pull E22 back onto nest.
Will try and find it

I'm not sure who said that and where Bev, but an eaglet would most likely never try to pull another one to safety. They would not even have that kind of knowledge. If you can please tell me where you saw that. MaryF

Later E22 wingersizes on the nest
SWF 22 wingers on nest 3-24-23.jpg

From Lady Hawk -- Mar 24, 2023 #FLORIDA #baldeagles #eagle

M15 arrives back to the nest with the second fish delivery of the day and both E's rush over to mantle the prey. E22 claims the fish with a big mantle. M15 will return to the nest a minute later and he is just about to pick up the turtle nestover when E22 grabs it & prevents Dad from eating it. M15 leaves the nest and heads to the attic. E22 did not want Dad to take that nestover away or eat it even though E22 did not want it. Food is survival and the E's are certainly experiencing the importance of protecting all food sources! E22 then picks up the fish and eats that instead.

E21 will head to the spike and wait while E22 is eating. E21 decides to start wingercising and jumps back down to the nest. E22 is finished eating and E21 looks for scraps. Then it is E22's turn to show off winging and hopping around! They are both gearing up for that big day! Thank you for watching!

.. We almost had a fludge---or a kerfuffle---or something!! :w00t:

It started with E21 winging on the spike. 21 jumped down and perhap

s sailed across the nest bumping into 22--we could not see it. -- scaps are from the video

SWF 22 hanging on to edge 3-24-23.jpg

From Lady Hawk -- Mar 25, 2023 #FLORIDA #baldeagles #eagle

E21 was up on the spike extension doing some wingercising and then decided to come back down into the nest. The cam operator was not quick enough to zoom in to the left hand side but it appears that E21 may have caught some wind and bumped into E22 accidentally who was perched on the edge of the nest (the side with no rails) and knocked E22 out of the nest. Or E22 pecked at E21 when E21 came to close and that caused a scuffle with E22 almost falling off the side of the nest.

E22 gripped the branches as it was trying to came back up into the nest and at the same time, E21 decided to bite E22's head making it a bit more difficult for E22 to get back up. Both eaglets recover quickly thankfully. Part of the problem is the lack of side rails on this side of the nest due to the intruders landing there and fighting with M15. With all the mishaps and drama we have seen so far this season, the eaglets fledging can't happen soon enough!! Thank you for watching!
