E22 arrived at the nest tree this morning and so did the Grackles. From the U branch, E22 sees them coming towards
him and takes a misstep and winds up doing a great bat imitation!

Here is a video from 5-29-23.

"SWFL Eagle Cam 5-29-23. E22 "Hunts" a Squirrel! 3 Eagles in the Pasture @ Sunrise; E22 Close-ups!"
E22 arrives for the sunrise check-in, followed by eagle #2, which passes through. Eagle #3 comes into view as #2 is passing through. It appears #2 is considered an intruder by E22 and eagle #3, which I believe is M15 (based on E22's behavior and eagle #3's chasing behavior). The flight of eagle #3 is straight line and very fast, heading toward #2, which indicates chasing #2 from the area (IMO). Eagle #2 did not appear to be an adult in the slo-mo view. There is no way to know for sure who eagles #2 and #3 are with this view. Later, E22 is on a pond pylon and something on the lawn catches their attention. E22 goes to the lawn and begins watching/stalking a squirrel on a tree. E22 gets closer to the squirrel, which scurries up the tree. E22 goes to the base of the tree to try to figure it out. E22 is not yet capable of hunting squirrels; however, hunting is instinctual behavior, and E22 recognized the squirrel as prey. E22 watched, stalked, and got closer to the squirrel before it scurried to safety. This is an early stage of learning to hunt, along with the swooping of ducks behavior we have seen from E22. Good to see E22 working on hunting also, while trying to catch fish. It will take E22 longer to learn to hunt mammals than to catch fish, which I think E22 will soon be successful in doing. Later, CamOps provides beautiful close-ups of E22 in the nest tree. Thank you, CamOps! Time stamps below, if interested. Click on any time stamp to advance to that part.
Time stamps: Provided in DVR time; actual time is on the cam clock.
00:00. Opening.
00:08. E22 arrives, followed by eagle #2, which flies left to right.

00:51. E22 first comes into view (under "view" in the caption). Slo-mo on approach to show eagle #2 at the top of the screen. Difficult to tell for sure in this view; however, this does not appear to be an adult eagle (no white head visible).
01:13. Slo-mo. Eagle #3 comes into view by the Australian Pine trees on the far side of the church. This eagle is flying straight line, very fast.
01:32. Replay of all three eagles arriving/passing through, normal time.

03:23. Stretching.
04:18. E22 to the U branch.

Hi Suemac
Here is my cam video for 5-30-23.
Link: https://youtu.be/H1x0qGGsYU8
SWFL Eagle Cam 5-30-23. E22 "Hunts" a Turtle at the Pasture Pond, Slo-Mo + Zoom! E22 Swoops Water.
E22 arrives at the nest tree in the afternoon. A turtle (appears to be a softshell turtle), is ready to leave the pond to lay eggs. We have seen several leave the pond this season to lay eggs, then return to the pond after laying. E22 appears to take notice, starts watching, turns, and flies to the area the turtle went into. The turtle comes back into view, shown in zoom. The turtle hurries back to the pond, with E22 chasing. Softshell turtle are very fast on land. Replay without zoom. E22 watches where the turtle went in, likely trying to figure it out. E22 is not yet able to hunt mammals, but may be able to catch a turtle. E22 showed they recognized the turtle as food and went after it, first by flying to it, then by running after it. It may take time before E22 can figure out how to catch and open a turtle, but it will be good eating for E22 when they are able. Softshell turtles can get very large, but this one appeared to be of size that E22 can manage, if able to catch one. E22 hangs out at the water's edge for a bit, then leaves. On the way out, E22 swoops the water, feet down; shown in slo-mo first, then normal time. Time stamps below, if interested. Click on any time stamp to advance to that part.

03:07. E22 appears to take notice, begins watching, and turns around.
03:55. Cam1/Cam3. E22 flies to the area the turtle went to.
06:18. The turtle comes back into view, barely seen near/at the spot it went into.
06:35. Zoomed in view. The turtle hurries back to the pond with E22 chasing. Softshell turtles are very fast on land.
06:54. Replay, without zoom. E22 watches after the turtle enters the water.
07:58. E22 explores along the bank and gets sips.
13:22. Slo-mo; E22 takes flight, swoops low over the water & drops their feet.
