Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam 2022~2023
As sun goes down, Harriet goes to nest to take her turn incubating. M15 gets up off eggs and scratches under his beak as Harriet watches.
Harriet settles on the eggs and M15 leaves.

Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam 2022~2023
Tonight's December 7, 2022 full moon is aptly-named the Cold Moon which is the final full moon of 2022.
6:54pm - M15 perched on the Attic Branch as the Zoomie showed us the full moon shining brightly over him.
6:55pm - And down in the nest, Harriet seems to be resting more comfortably tonight without the flying bugs...
bugging her!

Oops...I forgot to post these earlier...
11:00am - 11:23pm - A beautiful sub-adult seemed to be comfortable while perched on the Attic Branch.
Meanwhile...M15 was below in the nest and gave vocal warnings while staying low over E1 & E2 to protected them.
(This sub-adult looks to be somewhere between 3 1/2 to 4 years old. IMHO of course...)
Okay...Now I'm going to say good night..again!

Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam 2022~2023
.. This is the first of two videos that I have received from Lady Hawk today. It's about the nearly 5 year old who was in the nest tree today
SWFL Eagles ~ Sub Adult Intruder Lands On Attic! M15 Alerts & Protects Eggs! 12.7.22
Sub adult 41/2 to 5, lands on the attic branch -- scaps are from the video

M15 alerting to the sub adult--he stays right there on the eggs
M15 was incubating the eggs when a sub adult intruder flies in and lands on the attic branch. M15 immediately alerts with warning vocals at the eagle as he stays on the nest the whole time protecting the eggs. This sub adult appears to be about 4 years old and remained on the attic branches for almost a half hour before flying off to a palm tree and then over to the church tree to perch.
The sub adult on the attic branch close up
M15 did a phenomenal job staying on the eggs rather than chasing the intruder off. Any time an eagle leaves eggs unattended in the pursuit of an intruder there is a risk of them getting damaged. Also, it is best to avoid conflict and this way M15 protected the eggs and allowed the young visitor to leave on its own. Good job M15!! Thank you for watching!

.. The second video from Lady Hawk shows Harriet as she takes her turn with the intruder
SWFL Eagle ~ Harriet Flushes & Chases Intruder Out Of Area! Returns To Nest & Incubates Eggs 12.7.22
Harriet flushing the sub-adult out of the Norfolk pine and away from the nest -- scaps are from the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwqywAgeyTo
From Lady Hawk -- Dec 7, 2022
It was an action packed day with the sub adult intruder in the area. After leaving the nest tree and perching in the church tree, the SA flew off to the east. A couple hours later, the SA flew to the front pine and M saw it and vocalized while he was still incubating the eggs. Harriet sees it and comes in fast flushing it out of the tree and chases it around nest and off to the west! She returns to the treetop perch and vocalizes keeping watch.
Harriet settling with a wiggle on the eggs
M15 will get up and head to the U branch and fly off and take a much deserved break as he had been incubating the eggs since 5:03am this morning (9 hours long!). Harriet will then drop to the nest and takes over incubating the eggs. They both have done a stellar job today!
I included some closeups of the eggs and also of Harriet showing her gape injury sustained from the owl attack. It is healing nicely. Thank you for watching!
A close up of the injury to Harriet's gape--it's looking pretty good!

Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam 2022~2023
Hello night peeps !
Owl strikes M, as he is perched in the attic.
I see hootie coming from right side, across the top of the trees. I guess M didn't
11:53 pm Owl strikes M. He goes down.
11:53:31 pm M seems to have landed on the veranda ! Did not go all the way down and out of the nest tree.

Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam 2022~2023
Owl strike cont...
Harriet sounding her mournful cries to M.
She gets to her feet and sounds alarm vocals. I can see M shadow moving around. He is definitely on the veranda. Also sounding alarms.
M returns to the attic.
11:56 pm Harriet stay on her feet watching. Vocals on and off
12:00 am Harriet finally settles back down upon the eggs. She is very restless. She keeps sounding the soft, low vocals. Maybe talking to M ?
12:12 am ** 12:30 am Harriet is still making soft low vocals, as she tries to calm down.
**12:35 am vocals from M. Harriet has dropped her head down. She's tired.
I am praying to the great eagle spirit ! Please let the hooties find something else to do than bother the eagles anymore !
Be good ! Enough is enough !
Be safe !! Rest well sweet eagles.

I don't know how you folks do it, but it's amazing and impressive not only the extremely timely coverage of the eagles, but also the ability to interpret 1) what looks like a smudge or dot (to me) as a bird, and 2) the scenes happening in the dark, especially on Camera 3. Also I can't believe the round the clock coverage? Incredible! Do you people ever sleep?
Thank you, thank you lovinnature, Sunnybird1995, Suemac (so much reporting!), Journi, LP, MaryF, Lady Hawk and call-outs to Zoomies, other admins and wskrsnwings for sure. I always think "thank you" to the Pritchett family is implied if not stated. Also, as always, if I've inadvertently left anyone's name off any list, I am so sorry. I do appreciate EVERYONE'S contributions.

.. Whoa! We just got another late night video from Lady Hawk! BAD OWL!!
SWFL Eagles ~ Owl Strikes M Knocking Him Off Attic To Veranda! He Is Okay & Returns To Attic 12.7.22
Here comes the owl from the West pasture -- scaps are from the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQjw7dyXOEM
From Lady Hawk -- Dec 8, 2022
M15 is sleeping on the attic branch when the Great Horned Owl flies in from the west pasture and strikes him causing him to fall off the attic unto the veranda branch. The impact wakes Harriet up and she vocalizes along with M15. It looked like the owl flew back to the front pines which is why M15 might have stayed on the veranda for four minutes before he flies back up to the attic. Harriet vocalizes when he returns briefly then she is able to lay down and try to get some sleep. Thank you for watching!

Good morning everyone
Here is my cam video covering yesterday's intruder on the attic, and the second intruder in the pasture area that Harriet flushed/chased.
Link: https://youtu.be/H_FiZ8RrDio
"SWFL Eagle Cam 12-7-22. Day of Defending; Intruder #1 on Attic; Harriet later Chases Intruder #2."
This is long video because I wanted to keep the entire intruder visit. Arrows mark the time stamps for intruder close views on the attic, the intruder Harriet chases from the nest tree area, and a close-up view of Harriet's prior injury, to make it easy to click through the highlights.
Cam video covers an intruder eagle (s) in the nest tree and nest tree area at two different times. The first intruder, a four year, lands on the attic branch of the nest tree while M15 is incubating. M15 stays on the precious eggs, protecting them, while warning the intruder. The intruder leaves the nest tree on their own after twenty-eight minutes, first to the pond, then the church tree, before leaving cam view. Harriet later flew in to flush an intruder from a front snag, then chased it from the nest tree area. This may have been the same intruder, but the view did not allow that to be determined. CamOps takes a close look at Harriet's previous owl strike injury when she returns to the nest to incubate. Time stamps provided, if interested. Click on any time stamp to advance to that part.
Here is a scap of intruder #1 from my video:
