SWFL Eagles ~ E22 The Survivor!! Learning Life Skills 🐦 Attempts Self Feeding & Gets A Bite! 2.6.23

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM0SXcCLIcM :vid:

From Lady Hawk -- Feb 6, 2023

M15 had just finished a feeding for the E's and E22 was able to get in there and had a nice little crop afterwards. We have some cute closeups of E22 and you can see a twinkle in its eye! E22 will pick at the fish nestovers and and will pick up a piece of fish and attempt to self feed on it & actually will get a bite of fish and swallow it! Good job E22! ♥

Eaglets start to be able to self feed around six weeks of age when they are strong enough to be standing on their legs so that they can pull and tear at the prey. E22 has about two more weeks of growing before being able to self feed but we can see the instinctual learning process already taking place. These are the skills that will be needed to survive in the wild and are an important milestone in the eaglets development. E22 is a survivor and has both Harriet & M15's strong genes which will bode well down the road! M15 is an amazing provider and we are all so proud of him and how he is single-handedly taking care of both E's.

At the end of the day, M15 waits on the attic and looks for Harriet to return to the nest. He then looks down at the E's on the nest and continues his role as guardian and protector of them over the night. We continue to hold Harriet in our thoughts and prayers and hope for her to return. ♥ Thank you for watching!

TIMESTAMPS:

00:57 E22 picking at fish nestovers
04:40 Nice size crop on E22
05:54 E22 picking up and attempting to self feed
09:53 E22 swallows a piece of fish!
14:30 E22 trying to eat a fish bone - gives up and plays with it
17:13 M15 Waiting for Harriet' s return ♥

Lady Hawk caught me before I went to bed  with this video which is hot off the press of M15 feeding the Es and E22's famous snatch and grab! ;)

SWFL Eagles ~ AWESOME M15 Feeds Both E's! E22 Gets a Good Feeding & Does The Snatch & Grab! 😊 2.6.23

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l99FTgR-QJY :vid:

From Lady Hawk -- Feb 7, 2023

M15 has really outdone himself today with the delivery of 5 fish/partial fish to feed the E's! As expected, E21 being the oldest does eat first & E22 is submissive and waits. E22 positions itself with its back to E21 (smart) and then can grab bites of fish from Dad! E22 gets in there and does the snatch and grab - something we see each season with the youngest eaglet on the nest figuring out how to get bites of food during a feeding with an older aggressive sibling! This is an important skill to have and no doubt E22 is going to perfect the snatch and grab technique this season!

E22 ate for about ten minutes before E21 comes back to the feeding table and bonks E22 who submits. E21 eats for a few minutes and is stuffed and that allows E21 to get back in there getting bites of fish from Dad. When M15 is finished he heads to the veranda and then up to the attic & over to the pond. Great job M15 providing, protecting and feeding the eaglets today! Thank you for watching!

I wasn't sure whether to commiserate here or in ChatNBobble. I've been physically struggling the last couple of weeks, so I wasn't caught up on posts till tonight. I've been checking in on the EEs, but not in a way where I was aware of the nest story of the past 5 days. I really, really super appreciate the detailed and the heartfelt posts of everyone--all the time--and especially of the past week. So now I'm upset (worried, preemptively sad) and have taken a mild tranquilizer since reading about missing Harriet and overtaxed M15. And all I can think is SEH and SED. And saying the Serenity Prayer.
