Ron was at the nest very early this morning. There is a problem with the IR Light at the nest where it goes black for a while and then we go back to seeing the nest. I could make out that he was there at 6.24.31Am already maybe earlier. He leaves at 6.37.26Am

From Facebook - Ron Magill

2022-12-01 001.jpg
Yesterday, "Rita," the bald eagle had surgery performed to help repair her severely fractured right wing. The surgery was performed by an avian veterinary specialist, Dr. Don Harris, assisted by Zoo Miami Associate Veterinarian, Dr. Marisa Bezjian and the Zoo Miami Animal Health Team. The surgery was successful in inserting a metal pin to align and support the fractured bone. However, the prognosis for successful healing is extremely poor due to the lack of circulation in the wing as a result of the devastating trauma. At this time, it is unfortunately unlikely that the wing can be saved and even more unlikely that she will ever fly again. Having said that, we are not giving up hope! She is receiving daily drug therapy, laser treatments, and acupuncture along with her wound care and dressing changes. She has already beaten tremendous odds by surviving the tremendous trauma from which she would have certainly died had it not been for the intervention of all of the involved parties. We are all praying that she can provide us with a miracle and continue on a positive path.

6.49Pm and Ron is not at the nest.

Today's news of Rita's worst scenario that she could lose her wing and not be able to fly is so saddening but at least she is alive and no matter what she will be taken care of no matter what the outcome is in the weeks to come

Ron on the other hand has no idea what has happen to Rita and we see today he continues to prepare the nest. As much as it might seem too soon for so many, my hopes are that another female eagle will make its way soon to Ron. It is only fair that Ron has a mate and that his journey continues in life.

For now, I wish Rita the best in the weeks coming and that our prays will be answered and she will once again fly high in the sky

Good Night Rita and Ron :rh:

.Another article about poor Rita.

ocal10.com/news/local/2022/12/01/zoo-mi ... Asf9Ccqlw4
.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – One of the avian stars of Zoo Miami’s Eagle Cam remained in critical condition Thursday following surgery to repair a severely fractured right wing.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers found bald eagle “Rita” wounded Sunday night. It’s not clear what caused her injury.

Zoo spokesperson Ron Magill said Rita underwent surgery Wednesday afternoon.

“The surgery was successful in inserting the pin to align and support the severely fractured bones,” Magill said. “However, the prognosis for actual healing to take place is poor due to the lack of circulation detected in the extremity as a result of the serious trauma.”

Magill said Rita is receiving “extensive” post-operative care, including drug therapy, laser treatments and acupuncture, but “the odds are presently overwhelmingly against being able to salvage the wing and sadly, even higher against her ever being able to fly again.”

He said the next several days will be “critical” in determining whether Rita can recover.

“Rita has already beaten the odds by surviving this devastating trauma that would have surely claimed her life were it not for the extensive care administered by all the parties involved,” Magill said. “Everyone who has invested so much in this majestic animal is praying that she can continue on that positive path.”

Little Update From Chat On Rita

From @La Envirolatina (Moderatotor)
She is recuperating. She ate a fish. She’s still attacking anyone who reaches into her enclosure (this is good). The flesh part of her wound has some healing (also good).

Still a very long way to go. She picked a bit at the wrap and pin, which surprising was also considered good news, but not to need a cone. Sorry I don't have a pic but if I get one, I'll post.
