CROW posted an update on their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/CROWClinic
Last night, the well-known fledgling Bald Eagle (23-959) or CE9- "Connick" (named by Window To Wildlife) fell from the nest on Captiva Island while branching. Staff coordinated with Window To Wildlife and trusted volunteer, Jim C., to perform the rescue last night. Jim then brought the patient in for evaluation this morning. Upon examination, our veterinarians noted the patient had a good body condition (2.9kg), but was moderately anemic and had evidence of three missing primary feathers with dried blood and two "loose" primary feathers. Vets expressed concern for anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning given the observed anemia (low red blood cell count) and started the patient on Vitamin K supplementation, as well as supportive fluids, vitamins, and nutrition.
Given the degree of the anemia and the issues with necessary flight feathers, the patient is not a candidate for renesting at this time. Further tests are pending, including radiographs, analysis of red and white blood cells (complete blood count), and testing for viral and nutritional diseases. CROW is in close contact with Florida Fish and Wildlife regarding this patient and will discuss the best steps as the fledgling becomes more stable.

There are five pictures there which I'm not going to copy since I don't have permission to do so - and there's a link to donate for those so inclined. (Note - because Hancock Wildlife depends on donations, it's our policy to not ask for donations for other organizations on the forum - so I am merely describing what's on the page. )

Connie nor Clive never returned to the nest after this morning. I am sure they are quite confused where their Baby went though I am sure they heard the commotion last night at the nest tree.
Connick is in good hands with CROW and we pray Connick will make a full recovery
Good Night Connie, Clive, and Connick

Re: Captiva/Sanibel Island Eagle Cam 2022/23
Many years ago, when eagle cams were relatively new, the two eaglets at one of the Institute for Wildlife Studies nests in the Channel Islands off the coast of California were knocked off the nest by an intruder when they were maybe 6 weeks old (old enough that the parents weren't around when this happened). Happily there was a survey team on the island checking on the nests and they were able to reach the injured eaglets within a couple of hours and take them away for treatment. We worried about how the parents would feel when they returned and found their eaglets gone, and Dr. Peter Sharpe, the biologist behind IWS, said that they would look around a bit, and bring food to the nest, and when the chicks didn't appear, they'd assume that they had fledged and left the territory, and they would go on with their lives much faster than those of us who had been watching the cam.ondabebe wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:22 pmConnie nor Clive never returned to the nest after this morning. I've never forgotten that, and in my experience, it seems to be true. With the same sort of instinct that makes them sit on uncomfortable roly-poly objects for hours at a time, and encourages them to put food into little beaks, they "expect" that the chicks will leave - and since they don't have calendars, they don't know that it happened earlier than usual.

I haven't seen Connie nor Clive at the nest tree but they are at the nest that they built right after Hurricane Ian. It appears they are tidying it up and even a stick was brought in.

4.03Pm You can see Clive biting at its legs. I know from close-ups before there are little tiny bugs climbing around on its feet from the nest
Here clive is lifting all the nesting up.
