Good Evening!
Update:
On March 21 2023 the egg was broken. DNF and Mr. North are still in their area but they still both seem distracted from what I have seen. Whether there will be a second clutch we will have to wait and see

Matching Drive
Update
We have raised over $3,000 already - almost half way to our goal! Thank you all so much!
And another supporter has come forward and pledged to match the next $500 in donations - so if you've been planning to donate, today is a great day to do that!
We already have 12 adoptions (2 each for Delta 2 and Harrison Mills, 3 each for Surrey Reserve and White Rock, one for tagged eagle Loki, and one person has not sent me their choice of nest or tagged eagle yet) - and nest adoptions have traditionally been the core of our fundraising for maintenance on the cams - so if that will work for you, please adopt a nest! Or two!
But I know that doesn't work for everyone, so I want to mention another option - we also have a core group who have signed up for monthly donations - and that consistent income helps with things like the cost of this forum, with its 1435 members, 662,126 posts and 1.2 million screenshots and other attachments. Thanks to all of you who post here, our forum has amazing documentation on a whole lot of eagles, not to mention osprey and various other critters - mostly in North America, but some from Europe and even Australia!
We encourage people to use CanadaHelps for monthly donations (actually, it's a great choice for all donations to HWF, and you don't need to be in Canada to use it). For those unfamiliar with CanadaHelps, it's a registered charity in Canada whose mission is to help smaller charities with their fundraising by handling the administrative stuff. If you're in Canada, they provide tax receipts automatically - and it's easier for gemini and me as the ones who track donations because there's a place for people to leave a comment so we know if they have an interest in a particular nest or tagged eagle - or what nest they want to adopt, if that's appropriate. Monthly donations can be cancelled at any time - or increased!
We are grateful to all of you who post observations, screenshots and videos - without you, there would be no forum, and no resource looking into the lives of so many eagles (and other critters) - thank you! And what is that saying about those who do the most being the ones asked to do more - if you can help out by adopting a nest, or signing up for monthly donations, or whatever you're comfortable doing, we would really appreciate it. Thank you for your consideration.
We've tried to answer some of the common questions about donating here - All About Donating - and please feel free to PM me or email me ([email protected]) or gemini ([email protected]) if you have other questions or concerns.

Re: Decorah North (Iowa) BE Nest---2021 - 2023 Seasons
Mr. North and DNF
Mr. North is the long-time male resident at Decorah North. First seen in 2009 Mr. North would probably been 5 years old making Mr. North 19 years old at least as of 2023 (based on first sighting only).
DNF is the second female eagle of Decorah North. Showing up in the fall of 2018 DNF would probably been 5 years old then making her 10 years old or older in 2023. (based on arrival and years only)
Between Mr. North and DNF have fledged 7 eaglets. DN9 was rescued but ended up fledgling after being rescued.
2023 - One Egg: Due to a territorial issue involving DNF, the egg did not get incubated enough and ended up breaking. There were no eaglets this season
2022 - Two Eggs: Both hatched DN15 and DN16. Both fledged
2021 - Two Eggs: Both hatched DN13 and DN14. Both fledged
2020 - Two Eggs: Both hatched DN11 and DN12. Sadly DN11 died. DN12 fledged
2019 - Two Eggs: Both hatched DN9 and DN10. Sadly DN10 died. DN9 abandoned the nest early due to blackflies. DN9 was rescued and released in the fall of 2019.

Re: Decorah North (Iowa) BE Nest---2021 - 2023 Seasons
Nest History
Mr. North and and his original mate Mrs. North established their nest in Decorah North in 2009 in a pine tree. In 2011 the nest collapsed and the pair built a new nest in 2012 in a dead elm tree. Unfortunately, this tree fell in 2013 and the pair had to build a new nest again this time choosing a white oak tree.
Sadly in early 2018, the nest fell out of the tree after a storm. It was decided then that a starter nest would be built in hopes that this nest would not fall and that the pair would finally have a permanent home. Built by Kike Arnal and Amy Ries in the same White Oak Tree the nest is 56 feet off the ground.
In 2019 when the nest was measured it was seven feet long at its longest point and four feet wide at its widest point. Measured again in 2021 the nest had grown a lot now measuring 8.25ft at the longest point and 6.25ft at its widest point.
The pair returned to the nest that season and have made it their home once again. The nest is the one we see on came today and is still intact as of 2023.
Mrs. North
Mrs. North was the original mate to Mr. North both arriving in 2009. In the fall of 2018 when the cam came back online for the new season, Mrs. North did not return (there is no information on what happened to Mrs. North) and a new female was at the nest which was named DNF (Decorah North Female).
Note: The name Mrs. North was retired and was decided not to be used for any female that would occupy the Decorah North nest again
2016-2018
Between Mr. North and Mrs. North, they have hatched 8 eaglets.
2018 - 1st Egg Broke - Reclutch - 2 Hatched - DN7 and DN8 - Both past away on May 25th due to blackflies combined with the extreme heat and humidity
2017 - 3 Hatched - DN4, DN5, and DN6 - DN6 died from hypothermia at only one day old. DN4 and DN5 went onto Fledge
2016 - 3 Hatched - DN1, DN2, and DN3 - DN2, and DN3 passed away - DN1 went onto Fledge
