AEF Captiva Eagles ~ It's A Fish-Palooza! 🐟 Pantry Is Stocked & Kids Are Feisty! 😊 12.15.20

Joe broods the babies while Connie does some fishing -- scap is from the video

From Lady Hawk

Joe is getting ready to feed an army with the amount of fish delivered to the nest! He is an excellent provider for Connie and his family! Mom starts to feed the kids once again but then takes a short break leaving her two feisty eaglets to duke it out. We may have two healthy females on this nest! Thank you for watching!

AEF Captiva ~ We Have An ESCAPEE! 💕 Eaglet Leaves Nest Cup At Two Days Old! Feeding By Mom! 12.16.20

Yikes! A 2 day old eaglet escapes the nest bowl-that's early -- scap is from the video
CAP 2 day old escapee 12-16-20.jpg

From Lady Hawk

Connie arrives back to the nest and Joe takes a break. She broods the kids and when she gets up we see #1 up and out of the nest cup already! This is incredible for an eaglet to leave the nest cup at only two days old. I believe this is the earliest I have witnessed on the nests!

Connie will give the eaglets a feeding and both eat and there is no fighting! Thank you for watching!

AEF Captiva ~ Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Eaglets! Mom Steps In To Feed Both! 😊12.17.20

From Lady Hawk

The eaglets continue their sibling rivalry with a surprise bonk by #2 as they both go down swinging! #1 gets right back up & delivers a swift bonk in return and #2 stays low for a while. Mom starts to feed #1 and then #2 will join in the feeding. Both kids ate well today in between the spats! Thank you for watching!

My friend Deb Stecyk gave me permission to post this video of our crazy baby eaglets :D Thank you Deb!!

Baby Eaglets 6 Days Old - Beautiful Feeding of Fish Nice Crops - Dec 19, 2020 - Captiva Bald Eagles

#1 eaglet gets a big bite -- scap is from the video
CAP 1 big bite 12-19-20.jpg

From Deb Stecyk

The Sweet Baby Eaglets are 6 days old, this footage captures a beautiful feeding of fish for one of the kids. After the eaglet is full the other eaglet moves in and shares in the feeding. Both eaglets appear to have nice crops. Wonderful to see less bonking and competition and more snuggles instead. Great family interaction!

Thanks to The American Eagle Foundation for the online broadcast of this eagle cam

Finally #2 gets a turn to eat---YAY! -- scap is from the video

Another video from Lady Hawk ---

AEF Captiva ~ Oldest Eaglet Pulls Downy Feathers Off Head Of Youngest! #2 Gets Nice Feeding 12.19.20

Poor little fuzzy head  scp by LadyHawk from her video
CAP poor head 12-20-20.jpg

From Lady Hawk

For the past couple of days, #1 has been bonking #2 and pulling some of the little downy feathers out. Today #2 was seen with a Ed Grimley look (from SNL show) with the feathers sticking straight up on the top of its head! That was too much temptation and #1 finishes the deed and pulls them out and they go flying in the air at 4:34. In regular time and slomo! Sweet #2 is okay and just has a little bald spot for now until new feathers grow in.

This does not keep #2 down for long and will get back up and get a nice feeding from Mom!! If you notice the prey on the left hand side of the nest it appears to be a rat. The sibling rivalry at this stage is normal and should start to subside around the third week. It is a good thing they both are so close in age and size! #2 is a warrior and will have payback one day! Thank you for watching!

Just found this cam on Youtube, followed the link, and was watching Mom going through a ferocious rainstorm ! It's passed now, but she got drenched  :rh: . But they have the nicest nest. Bowl is nice and deep, middle is a little narrow like they have two rooms lol ... they did a great job.

I found another video made by Lady Hawk. It's full of action! Thanks LH!!

AEF Captiva ~ Connie Brings In A Huge LIVE Flopping Fish 😊 It Tail Slaps One Of The Kids! 😊 12.21.20

Connie brought in a huge flopping fish and it was almost more that she could handle---it was very fresh---and lively! Here's the flopping fish.
CAP big flopping fish 12-21-20.jpg

From Lady Hawk

Joe is on the nest when Connie flies in with a huge live fish!! He takes off and lets her serve it up. The fish gets away and flops to the side of the nest as Connie tries to secure it. It tail slaps #2 (at 1:48) who instantly does a face plant like it was a bonk lol No worries - #2 gets up and will join #1 in a nice peaceful feeding!! In regular time and slomo! Thank you for watching!

The eaglets were very alert and watching all the action. Here the strong fish nearly up ends Connie!

After Mom subdued the fish and had a few bites. The eaglets had a big treat! Here #2 is getting a big bite!
CAP yummy 12-21-20.jpg

Look how smart #2 has gotten---he nearly always goes up over the top of #1 to get fed and to NOT get bonked! If he could just remember it all the time ;)

All of the scaps in both of these two posts are from Lady Hawk's video
