So Maddy, very Happy to share this season with you, but so sad about the conclusion, 3+2 eggs, 3 destroyed by ravens, 1 fertilized but non viable very early, and the little one who didn't support the hatchling... we were so close...

for a good season next year.

Egg #1: 01-06-2021--->01-07-2021 eaten by ravens, Egg #2: 01-09-2021--->01-14-2021 eaten by ravens, Egg #3: 01-13-2021--->01-13-2021 broken during laying.
2nd clutch
Egg #4: L 02-09-2021 at 14h42 --> Died during the hatch +03-19-2021. Egg #5: L 02-11-2021 at 17h21 --> 04-17-2021 eaten by ravens.

Enjoyed a pretty nice weekend out there, the offshore flow held temperatures back a bit with limited cold air advection, coastal and valley areas had no problem heating, typical weak Santa Ana. Conditions will become more zonal this week leading to warmer temperatures through Tuesday, cooling again midweek as another trough sweeps inland. Fair and warmer today and Tuesday as highs reach the mid-60's, light east to northeast winds around 5-10mph at times, turning southwest and gusty Tuesday afternoon. Low pressure will move inland to our north Wednesday into Thursday, cranking up the onshore flow once again. This will bring some cooling to the area with highs in the 50's and lows in the 20's. We'll also experience gusty west winds to 20mph at times. Temperatures will climb into the 60's again by the weekend, possibly near70-degrees by early next week as our forecast remains dry. USFS plans to conduct more prescribed burning this week south of Big Bear Lake, smoke and flames will be visible.

A raven hops to the nest, moves the egg shell, takes it in it's beak, then flies off with it.
While nature can be hard to watch, it's the circle of life. The good outcomes are never guaranteed. Success depends on many factors, all beyond our grasp.
One thing is for sure, with fortitude and persistence, Jackie and Shadow will persevere.

Shadow flies in with a stick, checks the nest over a few hours after a raven flew off with the egg shell. Does he notice the egg shell is gone? There is no way to know what eagles think or feel.
One thing is for certain, they can now move forward and enjoy their time off before starting nestorations in the Fall
