The heat is officially on with record high temperatures possible each day for the remainder of the week. An excessive heat warning is in effect through Saturday, if planning outdoor activities do your best to stay cool and drink plenty of fluids. We also have our first little influx of monsoonal moisture, bringing some mid/upper-level clouds into the region. At this time thunderstorms look unlikely, but we'll have to watch for any development of storms down over Sonora Mexico, which could send a deeper surge of moisture in our direction. Expect partly cloudy skies today with highs in the upper 80's to around 90-degrees, east to southeast winds around 5-10mph at times. Little change to our weather for the remainder of the week as daytime highs hover around the 90-degrees mark, while overnight lows generally cool to the 50's, winds mostly light and variable. We'll continue to experience high cloud cover at times with some afternoon build-ups. High pressure will finally begin to weaken over the weekend, leading to a cooling trend by the first of next week. Monsoon awareness week continues. There is flash flooding during monsoon season, which can easily occur with torrential downpours of up to 2-4" of rain is possible in under an hour.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect through Saturday.
We're also experiencing our first intrusion of monsoon moisture, a better low level surge could increase humidity levels today and tomorrow driving the heat index up with temperatures reaching the lower 90's. As moisture continues to increase we could see a few showers or an isolated afternoon thunderstorm tomorrow as highs remain around 90-degrees, while overnight lows cool to the 50's and 60's. High pressure will slowly start to weaken over the weekend, leading to a cooling trend by the first of next week. Monsoon awareness week continues, severe winds are another factor in monsoonal thundershowers where rain cooled air can generate winds up to 100 mph in downbursts, creating large dust storms (haboob) across the deserts.

Bensweather.com Forecast Updated: Thursday, Jun 17 @ 06:07pm
Hot and humid weather continues, a scenario more typical of mid-summer with high pressure over the four-corners bringing extreme heat to the southwest and even drawing some monsoonal moisture into the region. Moisture above 500mb could be enough to spark an afternoon shower or thunderstorm today. Very warm and humid with highs in the upper 80's, winds mostly light and variable except gusty around any storms. A drier south-southwest flow will develop Friday through the weekend, cutting off the monsoon flow. Continued hot through the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 80's while overnight lows generally cool to the 50's. High pressure will weaken some next week allowing for additional cooling with dry weather. Monsoon awareness week continues, severe winds are another factor in monsoonal thundershowers where rain cooled air can generate winds up to 100 mph in downbursts, creating large dust storms (haboob) across the deserts.
