Harrison Bay, TN Bald Eagle cam 2021 - 2023
Fall 2022 update - still no camera, though they are still hoping. We are extending this thread through 2022 and 2023 in case people would like to comment, and as a place to document activity at the nest. ~JudyB
They are hoping to have a cam back at this nest for this season. Here is what was posted by Harrison Bay----
·
It is the 10th Anniversary of the Eagles nesting at Harrison Bay State Park and that we know we have had some good times and bad. The Eagles, Elliott and Athena are busy at the Nest. We are getting busy too.
To move Harrison Bay Eagle Cam (HBEC) forward & to promote Tennessee State Parks, we are partnering with the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy on this project of replacing the existing camera system.
https://tnstateparks.com/conservancy/who-we-are Also their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TSPConservancy
HDOntap has been selected to provide new camera and setups. A total of 4 cameras (2 PTZ, 1 Fixed and a Approach Cam), all with IR and some with microphones.

The Harrison Bay Eagle Cam Project is designed to allow viewers an up close view of the nesting habits and process of a pair of American Bald Eagles. The nest is located on the grounds of The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay State Park golf course (Bear Trace Golf Course), near the 10th green, on the shores of Chickamauga Lake at Harrison Bay State Park near Chattanooga, Tennessee. At the beginning of this nest cam adventure, Bear Trace Golf Superintendent Paul Carter worked diligently to secure funds and coordinate the difficult task of placing a live streaming webcam 75 feet high at the edge of the eagles' nest in a pine tree.
Elliot--the longtime Dad at this nest The Harrison Bay Eagle Cam Project was initially funded by Friends of Harrison Bay State Park, the United States Golf Association Green Section, and the East Tennessee and the Middle Tennessee Golf Course Superintendents Associations.Though the eagles seem relatively unperturbed by the Bear Trace golfers who play through, visitors are not routinely allowed on the course. To protect the eagles and avoid golf course injuries for two-legged visitors no one is allowed to come out and look at the eagles except on a guided tour.
Sound is now available on this cam! The project is funded by the United States Golf Association and is sponsored by the Friends of Harrison Bay State Park and the Tennessee State Parks system and the East Tennessee and the Middle Tennessee Golf Course Superintendents Associations.
Athena the current female here
This nest is located in the Eastern Time Zone.

This nest has, since the cams went live, featured the pair of bald eagles Elliott and Eloise. Unfortunately beautiful Eloise has left this earth! It's not certain exactly what happened--only that her body was found. After that happened there was a constant parade of new female eagles vying to make Elliott their mate. None succeeded for an entire season! There was a lot of drama and many diva female eagles vying for Elliot's attention. None of them became his mate and we had no eggs or eaglets for the 2017 season.
We lost the cams on this nest for the entire 2017 season too!!
There still was no mate for Elliot during the 2018 season!!
In 2019 a new female, Athena, finally stole the heart of Elliot.
We thank the beautiful Eloise for her many beautiful eaglets and her years as a great Mom and mate to Elliott This nest has, since the cams went live, featured the pair of bald eagles Elliott and Eloise. A LITTLE NEST HISTORY ~~
First Nesting Season: 2011—Two eaglets hatched and fledged
Second Nesting Season: 2012—Cameras installed. Two eggs laid, the first on Feb. 11 and the second on Feb. 14. Sadly one was discarded shortly before it was due to hatch, and the other apparently hatched but the chick died shortly after hatching.
Third nesting season 2013----Two eggs were laid and two healthy eaglets fledged.
2014 --- Two eggs laid and eventually two eaglets fledged. On May 27th HB5 may have attempted a fledge or may have fallen or slipped--was picked up the next day from the ground with a broken wing. It is possible that HB6 may have fledged on May 31st per the park ranger. (76 days old). HB5 was re-habbed by the AEF at Dollywood and was released by Al Cecere of the AEF back into the nest area where it reunited with it's family on June 30th
Release of HB5 by Al Cecere of the AEF
2015 --- Two healthy eaglets fledged from the nest. HB8 on June 13th and HB7 on June 18th.
HB7 and HB8 from 2015
2016 --- Two more beautiful, healthy eaglets fledged from this nest. The fledge dates were HB9 -- May 26th and HB10 -- May 24th
HB9+HB10--the last two eaglets from this nest frpom Elliot and Eloise (2016)
........................................................................................................
Athena's family ~~~~~
From JudyB about the 2019 season when Athena laid her first three eggs.
I'm doing a bit of catching up on some nests, and learned that at least two eggs hatched, and both eaglets fledged successfully! The camera is still not online, but local observers posted pictures of eaglets HB13 and HB14 on Facebook, and said one of them was observed away from the nest (so fledged) on May 21st, and both were seen flying on May 28th (though the actual fledge date might be earlier. Both of them were still in the area as of July 3rd, and one was seen on July 16 - so a successful season.
HB15 and 16 joined the family in the 2020 season

The nest is located a pine tree that is only slightly taller than the location of their first nest where the original cameras were located. It is sitting about 100 up in a 120 foot tall pine tree. With funding from the United States Golf Association and support from The Friends of Harrison Bay State Park, they were able to continue the Eagle Cam Project with the nest change and in 2012 installed a set of three cameras in the current nest.
The following photos are property of and courtesy of the Harrison Bay Eagle Cam. ~~~
This photo shows the area where the nest is located right in the middle of a beautiful golf course. It is near the top of the tall tree in the middle of the picture.

HB18 still has some shell on it. Just a puddle of bobble heads!
