Hi PerchedUp_WithCoffee! Good to see you here this morning. I'm leaving the question for Terri to answer. This cam has been down for a few years.
7:57 am Guardian returns to the nest. He wasn't there long at all.

Hi everyone! Wow you guys are all over it!
Thanks Phil for your great evening documentation! You are getting a workout with these two being in the nest at night so often!
Thank you Rita for your fantastic daily documentation! Glad you liked the close up of Guardian! Still practicing with the zooming!
We appreciate you guys so much! And Perched Up we are so glad you found this forum & you are a great addition here!
Perched Up, I do not recall them spending this much time in the nest at night before they had eggs? I've heard a few other people saying they don't remember seeing that either? I'm not sure why that is, but it could be that they are feeling that they need to defend their nest with these other eagles & birds around?
There's a resident red-tailed hawk who perches close to the nest a lot when they aren't around, so they might just need to "claim" this nest? Back in 2015, a red-tail started moving sticks around in their nest which we were able to watch after we had installed a new Eaglecam. Liberty & Spirit had moved down & built their first nest at the golf course. But, suddenly good 'ole Lib comes flying in & chased that red-tail right outta there! She was still defending her "Alternate Nest"!
Not to mention the Yellow-billed Magpies who have moved into the "neighborhood" 2 years ago & built at least 10 nests in the trees around the Eagle's Nest! We have seen them going into Lib & Guardian's nest quite a bit too! They even finished off some Coot remains left behind a few weeks ago! I don't know all that much about Magpies except they are in the Corvid family & are highly intelligent! Even though they are so much smaller than eagles, I watch them dive bomb & pester the eagles all the time because they are landing near the magpie's nests! They are very territorial birds! That is really the one difference between now & 5 years ago when there weren't ANY magpies or magpie nests in that area so that would be my best guess?
Perched Up, I would love to meet you sometime & show you all of their favorite perching spots! Once you know which trees to look at, you will be able to find the eagles! They have their favorite trees for sure!
I wasn't able to go down there today due to an upcoming appointment, but I am down there most mornings on my bike!
Hope to meet you soon!
Terri

Hey Terri, thank you so much for the warm welcome and that background information! My real name is Carly and I would absolutely LOVE to meet up and talk more about Lib and Guardian and they’re habitat. I don’t make it down to the trails too often because I have a two year old and take a few classes at the college which keep me pretty busy but I would love to meet you down there sometime!
When we went this morning, as we drove past the nest, one of the eagles was perched in the tree and flew out to wave as we were pulling onto the sundial bridge exit. It was amazing but all I could do for pictures was yell for my niece to snap these through the window with her cell phone. I hope to get some pictures with my digital camera one day!
Last week when we went, we saw a red tailed hawk near the nest and fly to the pond snag, I wonder if it was the same hawk you mentioned. And yes I noticed the abundance of magpie nests near L&G’s nest and was wondering if maybe that was one reason they have been staying close to home... whatever the reason, it’s sure spoiling us with some good views

*first pic the eagle is still perched in tree, you have to zoom to see* again, not the best pictures but it was nice to see them nonetheless

Hi Terri! Thank you! Also thank you for answering PerchedUp_WithCoffee's questions. Think Philjo and I were wondering if the high winds keep them near the nest at night. However no winds last night, so could be other birds around. Any owls in the area Terri? Haven't seen one at the nest, but then again don't check much after dark. Maybe I should.
PerchedUp_WithCoffee thank you so much for the photo's. I didn't realize the nest was that close to a bridge. Would you mind if we called you just Perched? You chose a rather long forum name. As Terri said Welcome to the forum, we are glad you have joined us here.
1:37 pm Neither of the eagles have returned back to the nest.

5:35 pm Guardian arrived at the nest.
Thank you for the close up Terri!
2 minutes later off he goes.
Re: Redding, CA - 2020-21 - Bald Eagle Cam
Liberty arrived just moments after Guardian left.
She tests the nest bowl.
Then she gets up and looks around.
After this she hopped up to the upper branch.- Philjo56France
