:D Hello everyone!!!

Thank you JudyB for setting up our new thread! :thumlft: We are so excited to have an Eaglecam this year so we can share the season with everyone!

Welcome back Gary!!! We are so happy to have you back here with us! Thank you for all of your hard work on collecting & keeping our Data for this Nest up to date! You're the BEST! :thumlft:

Great to see you back Jean & Bev & Phil! Thanks for taking a few s'caps already!!! Can't wait to see an eagle in that nest!!! And I don't think it will be long now!

Today on my morning bike ride I spotted a large bird near the nest & lo & behold it was Guardian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is the earliest I have ever seen our eagles back at the nest? It may have something to do with all of the smoke we are having in our area from the numerous wildfires in California :( The latest fire that just broke out last Sunday is only 30 minutes from Redding so we are getting even more smoke this past week :(

We hope that Guardian pops into the nest soon so we can get a look at our new eaglecam with an eagle in it!!!

Hello all!

That's fantastic news that you saw Guardian, Terri! We'll be watching the cam right along with you. It's fantastic to have the cam on my home TV and my phone anytime I want to look in. I'm the crazy one looking in at 2am or 3am if you're ever wondering about your YouTube viewing stats!

It's great to be back in the HWF forum after my absence the last few years. I just want to acknowledge JudyB as queen of the stats keepers. I often rely upon her info to supplement or confirm mine. I am always excited to play a part here, minor as it is, but it's one that I enjoy. I could never replace anyone on the team because you are all so valuable. If I'm ever off base in my place, I hope that someone will tell me in as many words!

Smiles here as we greet Guardian! :D

Great to see you here, Gary - and I very much appreciate you and the other data keepers at the various nests whose stats I use for my files!

I just checked, and the cam is streaming again - it was down for a while. The dvr goes back about 5 hours, and unfortunately I didn't see any eagles in a quick check - but maybe soon. :)

Hi Terri and Gary! Awesome to see the new cam up! Was just taking a peek in, rolled back to check for eagle visits. No eagles but there were these birds having fun in the nest. I've never seen these before. Do you know what they are? I did a search on jays or bluebirds and this bird wasn't one of them.

Hi Rita! Hello all! :D :bye 1:

First, I’m not a birding expert, but I view thousands of photos of birds annually, so it’s just a hobby for me. The birds depicted in the nest photo below appear to be Magpies. They come in two varieties locally, the Yellow-billed Magpie and the Black-billed Magpie. These appear to be Yellow-billed Magpies because of, yes, the yellow bills (beaks), but also the fact that some have a yellow ring around their eye (a variable trait with age and/or bird??). The range map also favors identification as the Yellow-billed Magpie, though either is (both are) possible.

If anyone can correct or supplement these identifications, please do!

You can see photos of these birds here, along with all sorts of wonderful information about their specifics.

Cheers to all!

I hear that we might have Liberty back too? That would be wonderful! :)

Hi Gary! Thank you so much for the bird ID. Yes indeed those look like the Yellow Billed Magpie's. They did have the yellow eye rings too. We don't have them here on the Oregon Coast. Greatly appreciate the info on them. Looking forward to seeing Liberty and Guardian at the nest!

I've noticed quite a few European Starlings visiting the nest right alongside the Yellow-billed Magpies lately. These starlings are either juveniles or "non-breeding adults" in their fall/winter plumage since they are primarily brownish with white spots. They are not in their dark and iridescent plumage. Just fun to watch visitors for now!
