Checking in and saw smart Mom at the nest. She knows everything. I’ll review now to see when Dad left, but I wanted to post this so we feel better about Mom’s whereabouts.

Hi, did SOAR show up? I saw a post indicating that they were going to be by. Mom Berry seems to maybe :dunno: need help.
I worry about her. :cry1:

From the Berry College Facebook page

Berry College Eagles
21 mins ·
We know that many of you have questions about the current state of things with the Berry nest, and wanted to take a moment to answer some of the most common. Thank you for your support of the eagles!
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FIRST EGG?
The first egg cracked Saturday morning. Some viewers first noticed part of the shell was missing, and by midday the shell was flattened (no eaglet remains were seen). The female eagle buried the remaining membrane from the egg on Tuesday morning.
IS THE REMAINING EGG VIABLE?
Though the male eagle continues to incubate the remaining egg intermittently, we are at the end of the viability window. The chances of this egg hatching are very slim. Most likely, one of the eagles will bury it in the nest.
WHY DID THE EGGS NOT HATCH?
Most commonly, eagle eggs do not hatch due to infertility or nonviability. In most cases it is impossible to know whether infertility or nonviability caused an egg not to hatch.
Some potential causes of nonviability include:
• Lack of sufficient nutrients to the developing embryo
• Lack of proper incubation (the egg must be kept at a stable temperature between about 95 and 104 degrees F, though the egg can be left alone for brief periods)
• The egg not being turned enough during incubation
• Penetration of the shell by bacteria or chemicals
WILL YOU GET THE REMAINING EGG SO IT CAN BE EXAMINED?
No personnel are permitted in the restricted area during nesting season. Any intervention will be determined by federal authorities.
CAN THE EAGLES LAY ANOTHER CLUTCH OF EGGS?
"Double clutching" occurs in the wild when an eagle pair's first set of eggs is damaged or lost in some way. Though the Southwest Florida pair recently laid another egg after losing their first eaglet and egg (wonderful news!), eagle biologists point out that most eagles will not lay another clutch if they have incubated for more than two weeks.

WOW! Thanks for this information Bev! I'm waiting for Jackie and Shadow to realize that there is no need to incubate anymore. Hopefully few days more will be enough for them to do it full time. Maybe 24/5, we'll see. But I can see that Shadow really wants to be with the eggs as if he feels they are not gonna be there forever and he needs more time with them.
All the very best to Mom and Dad of this nest and all the very best to everybody who reports on it! :grhug:

Hi Maddy..I think that season at H Mills was the exception rather than the rule.. that being said Males tend to incubate the non-vivabe eggs longer than the females ., Judy watches more nests than I do and has a wealth of information .
