ABOUT OUR CAMS with thanks to AEF
Three high-definition cams are available on this page. Two are mounted on the nest tree and provide different views of the nest. The third cam is mounted on a nearby tree at a lower angle and shows the nest tree and the canopy. If you watch for a while, you may be lucky enough to see eagles flying to and from the tree, and when the eaglets get to a certain size, you will see them begin to branch and ultimately fledge the nest.

The three video cam views are accessed by clicking on “Other Views,” located at the bottom right of the screen when mousing over the video screen. The three views will be shown at the bottom of the screen as thumbnails, and you can simply click the view you want to watch. By default, cam one has been selected.

At night, an infrared light is turned on. The eagles cannot see this light; it is outside their visible spectrum of light. Neither can humans. If you were at the nest site, looking up at the tree at night, you would only see light from the moon or stars. The infrared light is converted into visible light (black and white) by the camera.

The nest is located about 80 feet up in a Longleaf Pine tree and was built by the resident eagles approximately 11 years ago. Through the years, the nest has grown considerably in size and weight (likely weighing close to a ton)

In order to protect the eagles and their nest, the specific location of this nest is private and cannot be disclosed.

NEST HISTORY

Beginning October 1, 2013, the American Eagle Foundation (AEF) began providing live video streaming from a wild eagle nest located near the NE coast of Florida. The nest is located about 80 feet up in a Longleaf Pine tree and was built by the resident eagles approximately 11 years ago. Through the years, the nest has grown considerably in size and weight (likely weighing close to a ton). Since 2008, Gretchen Butler (Volunteer for Audubon “EagleWatch” Program and the American Eagle Foundation “Eagle Nest Cam” Program) has closely monitored and documented important events associated with the resident eagles and their offspring.

Until the 2018-2019 season, Romeo and Juliet’s behavior was very predictable. As usual, they once again returned In late August or early September to begin their nesting cycle, which includes bonding, mating, nestorations, egg-laying, and incubation.

As stated in the first part of this page, while defending the nest territory, Juliet was attacked and injured by other adult eagle in the area. Juliet left the nest area December 17, 2018 and was not seen again. Romeo tried his best to defend the nest, brood the eggs, and provide food for himself until one egg hatched on Christmas Day. Minutes after the eaglet emerged from its shell, another eagle that had been following Romeo flew into the nest and took the newly hatched eaglet. Romeo left the following day and neither Romeo nor Juliet have been seen in the area since.

Goodnight/morning everyone, bonjour Bev, Heather, … !

Sep 29, 00:00 AM jd_AEF (Moderator): Good Morning! It’s the stroke of Midnight on September 29th, and today at sundown will be the start of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. We wish all of the Jewish Eagle lovers among us “Shanah Tovah”, meaning a Good Year.
As of midnight check-in there is no sign of Samson or A2 in the nest tree. Rest well, friends, I am sure we will see them (or hear them) in the morning.

Sep 29, 00:00 AM jd_AEF (Moderator): It is also National Coffee Day, so be looking for great deals to fill your R and J coffee mugs!
