215 pm
Bella was incubating when all of a sudden she alerts to something.
Bella exits the nest then a minute later Smitty flies in and takes over
incubating. Not sure if Mom saw an intruder or whether she just wanted
a break.

We have heard owls in the area and there were intruders flying thru their
area recently but no visuals of any visitors today.

The chicks appear to be doing well despite some sibling rilvary seen on cam.
Bella appears to be a new Mom so it took her a bit of time to catch on that the chicks need to be fed frequently.
This is also Smitty and Bella's first season together so lots of interesting "firsts" at this nest.

Here are a few captures of the sweet letts :rh:

April 4 2019

Good Afternoon NCTC and Philjo :bye 1:
Thanks for dropping in always good to see you :huggie:

The chicks are growing leaps and bounds.
Chick #1 sometimes bonks down the younger chick, normal when the chicks are competing for food.
We think Bella is a new Mom so she is going thru a learning curve too and today we saw some calmer feedings likely because there is more food.

Smitty delivered a nice sized partially eaten fish earlier so the kids had a nice feeding of fish.
The last feeding looked like it may have been leftover duck from yesterday.

Here are a few captures

Chick #1 has moved away from the egg cup and over to the crib rails ... she is a big girl now.

Chick #2 had his right eye closed earlier during a feeding so hopefully it's eye is not injured; we will keep an eye on that.

Morning NCTC Friends :bye 1:

A heartbreaking loss at the NCTC nest this morning; one of the baby eaglets has passed away possibly due to trauma although we do not know the cause for sure. Things were going well at this nest so the loss is especially sad.

Yesterday the two chicks explored the nest for the very first time ... they moved up to the rails and enjoyed two feedings at the side of the nest. Food was plentiful and the chicks were adventurous and active everything looked great last night.

This morning we woke up to one of the chicks laying lifeless at the top of the nest by the fish pantry! So unexpected and a shock for all of us that follow this sweet eagle family :cry1:

Here are two videos that i did yesterday of the eaglets when they were exploring the nest bowl for the very first time.

Judyb thanks so much ... it was quite the shock this morning; both chicks were doing so well :brknhrt:

We think the chick might have been stepped on ... as it was located outside the egg cup ... up near the fish pantry.
