2021 Summary
This is a really hard summary to write because new Dad Akecheta came so close. Even though it was his second year here, he was only five years old, younger than many first-time dads - and he had learned from his mate Thunder (and had more natural instincts kick in as he aged). Thunder and Akecheta had three eggs this year, and Akecheta now realized that it was his job to incubate the eggs when Thunder wasn't there. And he did a really good job of that most of the time, and that would have been enough at most nests - but this area has some very opportunistic ravens, and the open nest location makes it easy to see if the eggs are alone for even a few minutes - and sadly that happened on March 11, when the eggs were very close to hatching. The ravens ate two of the eggs and flew off with the third - and our hearts broke.
Rest in peace, little almost chicks, and fly free forever, far beyond the sky.
