K82 and K81 became a breeding pair in 2003; both were 5 years of age.

The resident female K82 hatched from an egg removed from the West End Nest in 1998 and was then fostered into the Pinnacle Rock Nest. K82 has orange wing blings on her wings.

The resident male K81 was hatched at the San Francisco Zoo in 1998 and then fostered into the West End Nest.
K81 started with two wing blings one on each wing, however, sometime in 2013 his left bling fell off. K81 has two ankle bands; a silver federal leg band on his right leg and an orange aluminum band with "7/L" on his left leg.

DDT pollution caused a rapid decline in the bald eagle population; causing the eggs to thin so many did not hatch. To promote the recovery of the bald eagle population eggs from this nest were removed a few days after they are laid and replaced with artificial eggs. The viable eggs were then artificially incubated then once hatched the chicks were fostered back into the nest so that the chicks could be raised by the parents.

We continue to be on egg watch at this nest; eggs are likely delayed at this nest because of a territorial dispute with another eagle pair.
K82 is currently healing from injuries she sustained in a fight.

K81 has been to the nest a few times today ... K81 aka Mr. Mom bless his heart he is so eager to have eggs he is so sweet :rh:

K81 arrived to the nest then K82 joined him.
K82 looks very thin to me ... i hope she is healing and not suffering from an infection.

You are right. She does seem a bit thinned out compared to the male and it should be the opposite. Has anyone seen her eat or bring in prey since she sustained her injuries?

Hi Dino  Great to see you here. K82 has been eating well; Dad has recently delivered both bird and fish to K82 and she had no problems eating so that fact that she can eat and fly are two positives ... yet she does look very lean and that is a bit worrisome.

Great to see K82 in the nest with food that she secured for herself. A good sign that she is well on her way to recovery. Eat up, you need the energy for the eggs to come. Great news here for everybody who follow and love this pair.

Still hope for eggs for this pair. Nice to see them together and she has healed up nicely since the territorial dispute a couple of weeks ago. I read on YouTube that her latest egg laying is usually in late February but Mother Nature continues to surprise us, there is still hope these two can raise a family this year.

That is good news. Mom has healed up, mating has occurred and Mom spent a night at the nest. They still have a chance for a nest of eaglets this year. Hopefully that will happen and we can all enjoy the process of rearing a family with a view that can't be beat.
