Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018
News alert!
Away all week and finally off on my holidays {a few hours now} only to discover the nest fell down YET AGAIN
Must have been during the thunderstorm overnight into the morning.
Both eaglets were spotted by Annemie and I but the bad news is there's nothing much left of the nest to call home. Both on different branches just below the location of the new nest. Both parents have been around trying to keep watch and deliver food.
We've been down this road before folks and hopefully a few additional eyes on the situation over the next few days will help if OWL needs to be called in if either makes it safely to the ground

Yes you have it correct Karenkarenbills wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 9:02 pmI'm confused, Stan. The pictures posted by Vicki say the last ones were July 7th, which is today and the nest was there and the eaglets seemed to be fine.
ETA: I have just downloaded the pics that say July 7th but when I load the details it shows that those marked the 7th were really taken on the 6th, before the storm of last night. So that is why it shows the intact nest.
It was the storm that did it in overnight since the last photo posted by Vicki.
As it sits now the larger eaglet is sitting on the 4 ft square last remaining portion of the nest up beside Ma on her favorite nest perch. The smaller eaglet is perched about 20 ft directly below Ma on a big branch near the tree trunk. Vicki was staying a little longer and promised to let Annemie and I know if there's any further changes tonight.

My mistake Karen. My last three photos were taken yesterday on July 6. I accidentally put July 7, the computer download date. It's corrected now to July 6. All my other dates are correct.
So, mom and the two eaglets were together on the nest branch in the morning on July 6. Then in the evening Joey the eaglet was below. He was hopping around a lot and flapping his wings during the week, so he must've flown off the branch above landing on the lower branch and not able to get back up.

July 7, Saturday night. I shot these 6 photos after Stan mentioned that the nest was falling apart. Thanks Stan and Annemie for updating me.
As I was leaving the pond at 9:45pm, the eaglets called out as Pa eagle flew in, he took off five minutes later. Then I could here a young bird calling from high up in the tree (not the eaglets tweet). It was too dark to see, but then I realized that Pa must've brought in a live bird. Yikes it never occurred to me that that the prey may still be alive when brought to the nest. Shortly after, ma flew over to the next tree.

July 7, the evening continues.

Thanks for the photos and keeping the watch Vicki
All is good so far today. At 8.40 AM Darla was on Mom's favorite perch beside what is left of the nest. Joey was in the same spot down below on a thick branch. Both were quiet and content so I suspect they've had some food. No adults were spotted at this time.
I'll go back later to see the latest.
At this point the only one I'm concerned about is Joey
