Hi Gemini and Vicki
Thank you for the link Gemini, it is an awesome interview, I really liked it.
Hi Vicki, we have not seen the eagles as we were not home for a few days. I cannot tell you when they left, but I know that they are gone now for sure as they never stick around when the PNE starts.
I am glad for that as it is always a gong show over at the park for two weeks.
If you have more pictures you want to put up feel free Vicki.
It was a great season.

Yes it was a great season for ma, pa and their two eaglets despite their fragile nest.

Hi everyone
Has anyone seen the Eagles yet this year? I talked to one of the workers at the PNE and he said he saw one near the Japanese garden last week. It has been a challenge to help these eagles and I got a big fat no from the city to rebuild the nest. We have another meeting with the parks board coming up, there have been a few changes with the election so we will see.

Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
No Diana, I haven't seen them yet. I'm there sometimes after work at 7pm and occasionally on the weekend looking for them, but unfortunately they're difficult to spot before egg-laying time. It's too dark after work now, but will drop by again on the weekend. Too bad about the challenge and good luck with it. If successful, it may be a good idea to add some of the fallen-nest material from below onto the platform, in case they want to reuse it.
I watched the parent eagle spend a lot of time breaking off a branch from the pond-tree last year, then flying it over to repair the nest. The branch breaking was quite a process and with dive-bombing crows too. The eagles spend a lot of time breaking off the branches from the pond trees and it's a shame that their hard work falls apart each year. Unfortunately, they won't pick up the fallen-nest ground branches for repairs - with so many people, dogs and cars going by.

I saw one bald eagle today, Sunday, Nov 11, 11:30am. I will refer to him/her as parent eagle.
He was on top of last year's nest tree. There were about 50 crows flying around creating lots of noise when he flew over. PS, I just noticed the photo posted sideways and you may need to click on it to see it properly. Next time I will post from my computer instead of my phone. -- Vicki

Hi everyone
Thank you Vicky for the picture of a Hastings Parent.
It is hard to get a picture of them when they don't have a nest.
I have seen them flying around the park for about 3 weeks now.
Since I have not seen them in one of their trees, I could not prove it though.
.... so now we do have the prove.
Dear Diana
I am so sorry the city gave you and therefore us a big, fat no
after all the loops you had to jump through.
I see you are not giving up.
We ground observers will keep a close eyes on the Hastings eagle pair again, that's for sure.

Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
Out shopping just now on Hastings St. and something caught my eye
After shopping I went down to get a closer look and what I discovered is that the Hastings pair is building a new nest higher up in the same original cottonwood tree they used just off the parking lot. Its in the next branch joint up from the old nest location that came down in the wind storm years back.
It appears they're off to good start and I wish them luck on this choice of the new nest location for the upcoming season

That’s great news ... that’s where we wanted the city to let us put the artificial nest. It would be fantastic to see them do well this year.
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
Hi everyone
I finally have some pictures of the nest being built by the Hastings eagles.
Stan and I went down on the weekend.
Here we go:
Lots and lots of crows as well.
