Thank you for opening this thread Marg!

I've stopped by a few times on my way to Sechelt but haven't seen any activity until today when there was not only one adult in the nest but one perched in a tree just off the road (left hand side if looking down the hill) close to where the trail comes out onto the road. :woohoo:

This couple seems quite sensitive to people being in the area and when I stepped onto the trail to try for a clear picture of the one perched in the tree he/she immediately flew off, even though I wasn't close and was using a zoom lens.

Such a treat to find 2 parents at this nest! Looks to me like Ma in the nest, Pa the skittish one in his treetop. If you look at the heads, Ma's is nicely rounded on top with Pa's slicked back in what always reminds me of the Brylcreem look. Ma's beak is deeper.
Nice visit!

Fund Drive for Hard Drives

Good afternoon, everyone! I have just learned that we do not have the hard drives we need to record our cams as we approach little chick time - and we do not have the funds necessary to buy them.

These are the high resolution drives that are connected directly to the cams at the site, making it possible to record high quality videos of events at the nests - and we usually have them up and running before the eggs are laid. As you know, we already have eggs at three of our four nests, and they are likely any day now at the fourth nest - so time is of the essence.

Our tech person Ken is estimating that it will cost about $7000 to buy the high quality, high capacity drives needed for our 9 cams, and while we are keeping up with our regular monthly expenses, we don't have the extra money needed to buy and install the hard drives.

I know this is a hard time financially for many of us, with many businesses closed - but it may also be a time when some of us are staying home and watching the eagles after cancelling planned trips or dinners out - and I'd like to ask those who can to contribute towards these hard drives.

On visiting this nest April 7 I'm not sure if I saw a white head in the nest or not. No other eagle activity to be found or heard.

I had a hard time trying to see if there was anyone in the nest when I recently stopped by too, the same thing happened yesterday. I kept looking from different angles at the top of the road and wasn't sure if what I was seeing was whitish feathers or a reflection off a pale branch in the nest. I took quite a few pictures, zooming in on the camera and still couldn't decide if it was a branch I was seeing. Then while I was looking at the nest through the camera I thought I saw a very slight movement, but then wasn't sure if it was just a breeze.

Then I walked down the hill a bit and looked up at the nest and there were two eyes looking down at me :) There is someone in the nest!

Awesome! The proof is in the eyes and the beak. :w00t: Well done! I now think I walked down the hill like you did one other year and that is where I got the proof of brooding. Sadly, walking up and down that hill carrying the camera with lens is a lot more daunting now with passage of years. :%:
Look at the plastic below the nest left over from last year. :(

I find the hill a bit hard to walk up and down with the camera too Sandra, especially as it get tends to get rougher inbetween gradings and the vehicles going up and down create ruts and divits, lots of small rocks on the road make it quite easy to slip too. Fortunately I only had to go a little ways down to see the eye and beak.

Stopped by again on May 5th, all was quiet and at first I didn't see anything, then a bit of movement and an adult in the nest who appeared to be looking at something in the nest to the right; then looking at me. I stayed for a little while hoping to see an eaglet head / movement but didn't, after walking a little ways down the hill again and seeing I was being watched I left.

Finally stopped by this nest again on June 17th, all was quiet though I did see an adult in the nest. I waited for about 30 mins and didn't see any youngsters or hear any activity other than the one adult looking out at me. I left but stopped by again on my way out of Sechelt a few hours later, again saw an adult in the nest but no youngsters moving about though the adult did appear to be looking down into the nest at times.
