My next visit was July 16 and I saw both adults but no sight of the juvenile

I was treated to a wonderful display by one of the adults as they launched into a couple of dives right over my head! :)

Everyone still around on July 30, including a fledged eaglet , perched amongst the branches half way up a tree.

I visited the nest yesterday and saw 1 adult and 1 juvenile flying overhead. Neither landed so I can't say for sure if these were the Olave eagles but I know for sure that the Olaves are back as there were lots of fresh sticks sitting on top of the nest.

I visited on Jan 28 and saw 1 adult perched near the nest I'm not sure if there had been any nest repairs as it still looked pretty rough.

I plan to visit again very soon :)

I visited last Saturday (Mar 27) and saw one adult sitting in the nest, I think Ma, with the other adult in the area so things seem to be proceeding well here. :)

I have some pics that I will add as soon as I have uploaded them.

I visited on Sat (Apr 10) and saw 1 adult on the nest, hopefully incubating an egg or two! :luck:

While I was there another pair flew in and landed on Ma and Pas favourite perch tree and sat there looking all around. The adult in the tree (I think Ma) sat tight and nestled down into the nest a bit perhaps hoping to avoid being seen?

I think the pair must have seen Ma and was worried that the pair would try to force her off the nest and claim the territory but they just sat and looked for at least 30 mins. I had to leave but of course as soon as I had walked down the beach a bit, a second adult flew really fast in from the west. I turned back to look and the intruders had left. Pa landed near the nest tree and I could hear him and Ma calling to each other. A stressful but very exciting visit!

I visited on May 8 and saw one adult in the nest and the other further down the beach on a favourite perch tree. No eaglets visible or audible in the nest but with both adults around, hopefully they have at least 1 little fluffy eaglet! :luck:

I visited yesterday (June 10) and saw 2 quite large and healthy looking eaglets waiting for breakfast! :) Ma and Pa were both perched nearby on the lookout for any opportunity. Ma went fishing and caught a fish which she promptly delivered to the nest. I couldn't quite make out if the fish was shared or just went to one eaglet. Ma didn't stay too long and headed back to her favourite perch tree to look for more fish I expect. :luck:

I did get a flyover from Pa and there was a bit of a dark colouring visible on the edge of his tail so maybe he's a new Pa this year? :dunno:

I visited yesterday (July 6) and initially saw just 1 eaglet in the nest but I could hear another eaglet calling from outside the nest. Eventually I saw an eaglet perched on a nearby tree so looks like 1 successful fledge.

Both eaglets were calling out so probably hungry. Ma and Pa were nearby harassing some gulls so hopefully they wouldn't have to wait too long for breakfast!

2021 Cam Maintenance
Matching Drive

A little over 17 weeks ago, we met Tiku from our Surrey Reserve nest; this is just before he or maybe she made it all the way out of the shell:
Image

And now Tiku and Tucca from Surrey Reserve and Hope and Chase from Delta 2 have all set out to explore the world.

We do still have one young eagle to watch - this is Romeo from our White Rock nest, who hatched 6 weeks later than Tiku:
Image

At 11 weeks, he (or maybe she) is practicing perching on the nest supports and exercising those big wings. Eaglets generally fledge (take their first flight) between 10 and 14 weeks, and it's my guess that will happen in the next week or so.

And you know - I haven't really thought about this before - but our little window to access the nests and clean the cams and do any other necessary work isn't always that much longer than the 35-40 days it takes an egg to hatch. Last year the Surrey Reserve adults didn't leave until August 14 (though they weren't visiting very often after Thor left in mid-July) - and Dad Sur was back on September 26. Different pairs have different schedules - and it can vary from year to year - so it would be great if we could get ready now.

With that in mind....
Image

We will be posting more details about our Adopt-a-Nest program, the new option to adopt one of our eagles with a tracker (details soon), the Monthly Donor program - and the work we need to do on the 10 cameras we now have at five different nests.

The important thing to know is that at least the first $1000 in donations toward our cam maintenance fund drive will be matched by long-time supporters of Hancock Wildlife - so the time to donate is now!

I visited on Aug 5 and no eagles to be seen in the area. And in fact even the nest had disappeared, just bare branches remained! Most years the nest does partially collapse but this year the eaglets must have been particularly vigorous with their wingercising! :D
