A report from someone who is a member of our local Wildlife Spotting on the Sunshine Coast who saw the eagles recently:

Excuse the wires, this was taken from my iPhone will try to get a better shot down below. We heard them a few days ago, early morning still dark, we waited but no sign.
Today at dawn they returned to check out the 'eagle platform' this one has stayed since it is now 10:19 am

I was back to check on the nest Oct 21, after cyclonic type winds went through here with a couple of "atmospheric rivers". Nest stood up much better than I anticipated, being pretty much open to the Strait of Georgia winds.

On January 9 Gord spotted an eagle perched at the top of the nest tree and then perched in the tree on Jan 11. On January 27 he is concerned as there has been no activity recently on the nest.

Nest as seen Feb 1. Looking stable and inviting, but alas, not many sticks apparently added yet. No eagles were around.

The nest again, Feb 12. There does not seem to be much in the way of nest building yet within the nesting structure. No eagles were seen during my visit. A neighbour says she hears them.

Back to this nest site March 9. It doesn't look to me like there's been much nest building if any since my last visit. No sign of eagles while there.

Good afternoon has anyone been able to check this nest since Sandra last checked? David Hancock was wondering if anything was happening. I am unable to check it and wondered if someone is able to I don't drive anymore I handed in my DL 5 years ago. Thanks.

Hi Marg, a bit late in replying to your question but only saw it just now.

I hadn't been stopping by the nest as I thought a couple of the people in the neighbourhood were keeping an eye on it, but I did stop by yesterday. To me, looking at the 'nest' it unfortunately doesn't look like anything has been added to the nest platform that was built. I've attached a couple of pictures that show light coming through the branches which is how it looked when first erected.

But, the adults were perched at the top of the tree! Wondering if they didn't nest this year due to all the distruption i.e. their old nest tree being taken down and the nest platform being built in the new tree, but they were still hanging on to their territory and will add to the nest next year ?

Or, do they have another nest nearby ?

Thanks Marg and Karen. I've been wondering the same about another nest nearby. Haven't seen one.

On June 26th I got reports from 3 neighbours that 2 adults were back, sitting in the structure, talking, then flying away. This went on for a few days then stopped again. I have no way of knowing if it is a new couple or our other pair. I drove down but no eagles were to be seen nor heard.
One of the neighbours called the nest structure the "platform of paradise" for eagles.

This post marks the beginning of the 2022-2023 season.

2 eagles were in and around the nest early 2022 then disappeared. No babies. Fall of 2022, 2 eagles in and around the nest again, very vocal. I’m hopeful of nesting to occur next nesting season

I visited this nest yesterday, in the rain so no photos. There are sticks in the bottom of the mitigation nest but not enough to call a nest. No eagles were visible nor heard. They were very vocal and visible in late fall but not now. I will try to find another nest in the area.
