I finally got down to the nest site and out of my car despite the odd raindrop on July 7 around 2:00 pm. No eaglets seen. I got a nest photo from the beach and while there saw an adult in a perch tree down in Wilson Creek.
A lady I have seen often during the years says she was told by someone that there was 1 eaglet this season but she never saw nor heard one.

So glad that you got down there Sandra! :) And also glad that you saw at least one adult.

Fingers crossed that the eaglet sighting was a real sighting! :luck:

I emailed my friend who lives near the nest several days ago but he said he hasn't seen any eaglets and he did ask but didn't hear from anyone that there were any it would be nice to see one if there are any. I usually see them getting fed and flapping etc. but nothing this year...... :( I saw one adult this morning.

It did look like you were seeing incubating happening in April, feeding in May. I wonder what happened this year? So sad and sorry. :(

Sad news about this nest, especially for you Marg :( Fingers crossed for success next season :luck: I also have a few nests that I monitor that don't have any young this season.

2020 Cam Maintenance
Matching Drive

It's hard to believe that the fluffy little eaglets we first met in April are already flying around - and at least one of them is already half-way up the coast of British Columbia, feasting on salmon at one of the rivers with early salmon runs. The rest will be heading out soon, which will give us a brief window to clean the cameras, check the wiring and do any additional projects near the nests. Only one of our nests is currently sponsored (big thanks to Russ Cmolik for donating a new close-up cam for White Rock!) so we are asking those who enjoy the cams to help us get them ready for next year. We know life this year is different for many of us - but if you can help, we would really appreciate it.
Image

We have some big plans - two new cams for White Rock, replacement domes at Surrey Reserve and Delta 2, and hopefully getting to the bottom of the connectivity issue that keeps taking the South cam at Harrison Mills offline - and there will be some large expenses if we're going to do it all. We'll need a lift to get people up to the cams at White Rock and possibly at Delta, and the tree at Harrison Mills is very tall, requiring a professional climbing team if we are to do any work on the cams themselves.

If we can raise $10,000, we should be able to do the most essential work at most of the nests. And happily some friends of the eagles have pledged to match the first $1250 raised in the next three days - so if you adopt Delta 2, Harrison Mills, Surrey Reserve or White Rock for next year for $250, Hancock Wildlife will get $500!

The easiest way to adopt a nest is to
  • go to the "Donations" page on our website (https://hancockwildlife.org/donations/ - or click the button below)
  • click the "Donate via CanadaHelps Now!" link
  • enter the amount of your donation ($250 to adopt the nest of your choice for the coming year)
  • pick "Adopt a Nest" from the Fund list
  • use the message box to say which nest you are adopting and how you would like your name to be listed
  • fill in your contact information and credit card details, and
  • click "Complete Donation Now"
Image

And if this isn't a good time for adopting a nest, you can also make a donation of any amount to the "Eagle Cams/General Repairs" fund or you can make a monthly donation by changing the highlighted box at the top of the page from "Donate Now" to "Donate Monthly" (the first month's donation is eligible to be matched). Many of the funds have a suggested amount - but that is just a suggestion. The amount you put in the Amount box is what you'll donate.

You don't need to be in Canada to use CanadaHelps - and the rate of exchange right now is favorable to those of us in the United States - a donation of $250 Canadian dollars is currently less than $200 US dollars, so if you give $250 through CanadaHelps (or PayPal), HWF gets $250 Canadian dollars, and the cost to you is based on the current rate of exchange.

You can also use the other methods on the Donations page, but it's not as easy to provide all the information, so if you're sending a check or planning to give a donation directly to someone at HWF, please let me ([email protected]) or gemini ([email protected]) know a donation is coming so it gets included in the matching drive.

And if you have any questions about any of this, please do contact me or gemini and we'll be happy to help.

Thank You!

I will be starting the 2020-2021 Season from here:
This is the time the eagles return to their nests from their journey but I am not always able to view the nest through the telescope due to a Palm tree that is growing bigger. :( When it is windy I get a little view of the nest tree.
As far as I know there were no eaglets this past season. I have a friend who lives very close to this nest and he saw no eaglets. I will contact him and post an update.

Welcome to this thread. :) If you visit the Stalashen nest in Sechelt you are welcome to post comments and pictures here.

Earl & I have been watching this nest in Sechelt from our living room, through a telescope and binoculars. The nest is located at the corner of Stalashen Drive and Titalshen Avenue. We have been following this nest since 2008. When we first started reporting on the nest we had talked to a few of the people living close to the nest and they said that it has been there over 20 years. Unfortunately, it did blow down in July 2009 after a windstorm but we are happy to tell you that the eagles built a new nest. When the nest blew down one of the eaglets had branched and the 2nd one was fine also, the eagles fed them on a branch before they fledged. We look through our telescope at this nest which is about a mile and a half away. We can only see them clearly in the morning or evening due to the glare from the water and thermal interference.
Added July 16, 2017. Sandra was told by neighbours that this nest is 50 yrs. old (could even be older than that even) when his wife moved there she was 1 she's now 51
2009 - 2 eaglets not named. Fledged.
2010 - 1 eaglet Sunny. Fledged.
2011 - 1 eaglet Bluster June 21 Bluster branched. Fledged.
2012 - 1 eaglet Pacer June 27 Pacer branched. Fledged.
2013 - 1 eaglet Hydan June branched. Fledged.
2014 - 2 eaglets branched ..... Fledged July 16.
2014 - Sep 28, 5:50pm Ma/Pa Stalashen back!
2015 - 2 eaglets branched.......Fledged
2015 - Sep 30 Ma/Pa returned.
2016 - 1 eaglet, Orel fledged June 28.
2016 - Sep 19 one eagle returned.
2017 - Two eaglets branched one fledged June 30 2017 the other one a few days later.
2017 - Oct. 1 Ma or Pa returned.
2018 - sadly 2 eaglets hatched but did not make it......
2019 - One eaglet this year and it branched/fledged.
2020 - As far as I know there were no eaglets this year.
