Re: Roberts Bay Eagles, Sidney BC - 2019-2022 Seasons
I was alerted to a distressing situation at the nest site yesterday. The eaglet fell from the nest and was taken to BCSPCA WildArc facility in Metchosin for assessment.

Re: Roberts Bay Eagles, Sidney BC - 2019-2022 Seasons
I received some very sad news yesterday regarding the eaglet. After being assessed by the staff at the BCSPCA WildARC facility in Metchosin, it was determined the eaglet was very thin and malnourished. The staff thought it was best to euthanise the eaglet

Re: Roberts Bay Eagles, Sidney BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
This is the opening post for the Roberts Bay eagles for the 2022-2023 nesting season.
I visited the nest site with my birding partner on April 12th. I spotted both eagles perched on their favourite perch tree along Beaufort Road as we drove towards Roberts Bay. I grabbed my camera and just as I got out of the car I heard that familiar screeching back and forth. I didn't have much time to get my camera focused but did capture one photo of them mating

Apr. 12th cont'd.
Both eagles sat side by side on the branch for approx.12 minutes then flew off over the bay.
The female is on the left in the first 2 photos, taken from Beaufort Rd.
This photo was taken through the trees from the street the nest is on, female now on the right.

The nest looks intact but could use a little nestorating All of these photos were
taken from the road the nest tree is on.

Re: Roberts Bay Eagles, Sidney BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited the nest site on May 26th and sadly did not see or hear any eagles in the area. I chatted with one of the neighbours who said the eagles were around earlier in the season but have not been near the nest lately. I'm assuming the loss of their eaglet last season was very traumatic and the eagles decided to take this season off from producing offspring

This is the opening post for the Roberts Bay eagles for the 2023/2024 nesting season.
I visited the nest site with my birding partner on Oct. 12th. We did not see or hear any eagles in the area. However, after chatting with a fellow who lives on the edge of the bay, he said his wife had seen an eagle perched in a tree near their property a couple of weeks ago

Re: Roberts Bay Eagles, Sidney BC - 2019-2024 Seasons
I visited the nest area with my birding partner on March 10th. We did not see or hear any eagles in the area. We chatted with the neighbours who said they have both seen only one adult eagle in the area of the nest since Oct. One of the neighbours said she has heard an eagle vocalizing on the nest street over and saw one in the nest tree the day before on March 9th.
