I was very happy to see 2 eaglets and an adult in the 2nd nest on the Royal Roads property on Cottonwood Lane on June 5th.

Halfway across the path back to the road I decided to have another look and was surprised that I could see the nest from that spot.

I visited the Cottonwood Lane nest yesterday and it was very quiet in the area. The eaglets were quiet and the adults were not seen or heard in the area.
The nest is visible from a few different vantage points.

Cottonwood Lane nest June 21 cont'd.

As I was thinking of leaving, one of the eaglets got up and started flapping its wings.
The pin feathers are visible in the first photo and the top of the 2nd eaglet's head is visible.

I visited the Cottonwood Lane nest site on July 26th with my sister and did not see any adults or eaglets in the nest or near the nest tree. A short while later we heard both eaglets vocalizing from different areas and saw an adult flying from the trees across from the nest site. It flew towards Royal Roads and out of site.

We made our way back to the entrance to the big field where the nest tree is located and heard an eaglet and an adult vocalizing. We spotted the adult perched high up in a tree near the entrance; it had captured a small furry animal but we couldn't determine what it was.

After zooming in on my photos I believe I can see the eaglet perched high up in the adjacent tree, on top of a branch on the left side of the tree near the top.

I visited the nest site at Royal Roads with my sister on July 26th and heard the eaglet vocalizing in the area of the nest tree. We had a difficult time trying to find the eaglet that was perched amongst the dark greenery.

This is the opening post for the Royal Roads Eagles thread for the 2023/2024 nesting season.

I visited the Cottonwood Lane nest site on Oct. 19th but did not see or hear any eagles in the area. The nest looks intact but the eagles will need to do some nestorating before laying eggs :thumlft:

My birding partner visited both nests on Nov. 20th and the Royal Roads pair were both in their nest, adding nest materials, then perched together in their usual perch tree.

She did not see or hear any eagles at the Cottonwood Lane nest.
