Some photos of the eagles I captured on Oct. 13th at Esquimalt Lagoon.
These were taken when the eagles were perched in separate trees on the ocean side of the lagoon, near Fort Rodd Hill.

These photos were taken after I had visited the Cottonwood nest across the field on the other side of the lagoon. The eagles were back in separate trees on the ocean side of the lagoon near Fort Rodd Hill.

These photos are of the Cottonwood Lane nest across the field on the far side of the lagoon, taken Oct. 13th. I did not see or hear any eagles in the area.

I'm pleased to report that both pairs of eagles have been seen at Esquimalt Lagoon recently by a frequent visitor who lives in the area Hoping they have a successful nesting season in 2023

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019-2022 Seasons
I saw a pair of eagles at Esquimalt Lagoon Oct. 31st. They were perched in the same tree at the lagoon side of the road. I was able to get a photo of one after the second one flew off. It circled around the area then flew over the water, grabbed something, then took it to a tree nearby to eat.

One more photo of the eagle enjoying its catch yesterday at Esq. Lagoon.
I also saw an immature eagle soaring overhead while I was at the lagoon.

I was at Esquimalt Lagoon on Nov. 13th with my birding partner and she spotted an eagle on one of the snags way off in the distance, close to the Royal Roads parking area. A few minutes later she noticed a second eagle on the same snag preening.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited both eagle nests this past Monday afternoon Mar. 6th. One of the adults was sitting at the top of their usual perch tree near the entrance to Royal Roads at College Drive; it was calling and calling very softly. I did not see or hear the mate in the area. I managed to get a few photos of the eagle and their nest. The nest looks intact

I visited the second nest on the Royal Roads property near Cottonwood Lane. One of the adults was sitting at the top of their usual perch tree near the nest tree. It was content to enjoy the brief sunshine but I did not see or hear its mate anywhere in the area. The nest looks intact

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited the Cottonwood Lane eagles nest on the Royal Roads property, on March 29th. One of the adults was perched in the usual tree near the nest tree. Unfortunately it was later in the afternoon and the sun was behind the nest tree so the photos are quite dark.
I caught a glimpse of the 2nd eagle in the nest just before I left the area.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited the nest site on Apr. 28th and saw one of the adults perched on the usual branch on a nearby tree. The lighting was not good at that time of the day. The eagle called back and forth with the 2nd eagle that was in the nest. It flew off, circled around the area then landed back on the same branch.
The next 2 photos of the nest were taken from the road that runs through
the Royal Roads property.

Apr. 28th cont'd.
This photo was taken from the lagoon near the bridge. The 2nd adult was in the nest, hopefully incubating eggs
These 2 photos were taken from the end of the bridge closest to the Fort Rodd Hill property.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019-2023 Seasons
I visited both nests on the Royal Roads property on June 5th. When we arrived at the nest near the school one of the adults was perched in the usual perch tree near the entrance to College Rd. Unfortunately, it had its back to us and didn't turn around. We wandered down the road to where the nest tree is located and heard an eaglet peeping. After we walked back to the car the adult had flown off.
The nest is not easy to see once the trees have leafed out
The first photo of the eagle at the Fort Rod Hill side of the road.

June 5th Royal Roads Eagles cont'd.
A short while after we arrived we saw a large bird circling above the eagle and thought it was a vulture. It was actually an Osprey that dive-bombed the eagle twice before flying off down the lagoon.
Adult watching the Osprey circling around the perch tree.
