A view of the area where the alternate nest is, taken from Esquimalt Lagoon. The eagle was perched at the top of the same tree where we first saw it near the entrance to College Dr.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019/2020/2021 Seasons
I visited the area of the Royal Roads and Cottonwood Lane nests on Mar. 26th. I did not see or hear the eagles in the vicinity of the Royal Roads nest. My birding partner informed me I was standing in the wrong spot to view the nest from the road She saw an eagle in the nest a short while ago.
I saw both eagles at the Cottonwood Lane nest. I could hear one of the eagles calling softly in the nest and after about 20 minutes it started squawking loudly. The male flew in and perched on the side of the nest then hopped up to a branch above. He sat there for about 10 minutes then flew off towards the lagoon.

I visited both nests at Royal Roads on Apr. 18th. One of the eagles was perched in a tree down the road from the entrance to College Drive. No photos as the sun was behind the eagle.
This is the nest on Cottonwood Lane. Did not see or hear any eagles in the area; however there could have been one down in the nest

I visited the Royal Roads nest on College Dr. on Apr. 27th and was able to see the alternate nest through the trees, while standing across the street from the school.
One of the eagles was perched in the usual tree down the road facing away from me; again not good lighting.

I visited the nest on Cottonwood Lane on Apr. 27th. I discovered I could see the nest from the gate on Heatherbell Rd. to the pathway.

I visited the nest area on May 12th with my birding partner and was happy to see both eagles in the area. The male was flying in and out of the nest collecting sticks while the female appeared to be feeding young.

After the 3rd trip to the surrounding forest the male brought in a big stick and continued
to rearrange the placement while the female was tending to the young.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019/2020/2021 Seasons
On May 12th I visited the alternate nest that the eagles are using this year with my birding partner. It is not an easy nest to see and photograph, especially if there is a bit of wind. Both parents were chatting back and forth to each other and flying back and forth from the nest to the perch tree. The lighting was not good at that time of the day and it was threatening rain. The parents were feeding what definitely appeared to be at least 2 eaglets. You can see a beige fuzzy head in this first photo.

I visited the Royal Roads nest yesterday. I managed to catch a few photos through the branches of the nest tree and surrounding trees. It is a very difficult nest to see, especially if it is a bit windy. I cannot determine how many adults and how many eaglets are in the nest

I visited the Cottonwood Lane nest twice yesterday; first time early afternoon, second time late afternoon. I did not see or hear any eagles in the area but there might have been an adult in the nest
These photos were taken early afternoon.

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019/2020/2021 Seasons
After 2 visits to the Cottonwood Lane nest without seeing any eagles or eaglets, my birding partner and I were very pleased to see an adult perched at the top of a tree near the nest tree, and one eaglet in the nest yesterday An Osprey flew overhead towards the nest tree and the adult eagle promptly chased it away

Re: Royal Roads Eagles, Colwood, BC - 2019/2020/2021 Seasons
My birding partner and I visited the Royal Roads nest yesterday and actually found a better vantage point closer to the entrance to College Dr. It is a difficult nest to see and photograph, especially if there is a bit of wind; there are so many trees blocking our view I managed to get a few decent photos that have all been cropped a lot and resized smaller. The 2 dark lumps in the nest didn't move for the longest time then 1 eaglet popped up.
An adult flew in with food for the eaglets. The top of the 2nd eaglet's head is visible near the trunk of the tree.
The 2nd eaglet finally gets up.

One of the adults perched in their usual perch tree nearby. The lighting was terrible!
The eaglets are self feeding.
