Coal Point Eagle Nest, North Saanich BC - 2019-2024 Seasons

Unfortunately I was unable to visit the nest area one last time for the season but the neighbours did confirm both eaglets had fledged successfully I hope they have been enjoying a banquet of spawned out salmon in the rivers in Alaska

I have locked this thread and will open a new thread for the 2021/2022 season when the eagles have returned to their nest territory looking healthy and well fed. Hoping they produce a family next spring

Good News

I have unlocked this thread to include the 2021/2022 nesting season. Please feel free to post observation and photos if you see the eagles in their territory

This is the opening post for the 2021-2022 nesting season.

I visited the nest area Oct. 13th and was thrilled to see one of the adult eagles sitting in the nest It looked like the female and she gave us a short squawk. Shortly after several of the neighbours arrived home in their vehicles she stood up and flew off

As we were driving down Wain Rd. I spotted her perched in a tree behind a house.

I finally got out to visit some eagle nests this past Wednesday Jan. 26th with my birding partner. There were no eagles seen or heard in the area but a neighbour told us they have been around their nest lately The nest looks like it will need some nestorating

I did a tour of some of the nests on the Saanich Peninsula with my birding partner on Apr. 13th. We did not see or hear any eagles for half an hour until a Red-tailed Hawk flew by. First one eagle started squawking then the 2nd one did also. We wandered up and down the dead-end road but did not see the eagles I took photos from both sides of the nest.

I visited the nest site with my birding partner on Wed. June 8th. An adult was sitting up at the front of the nest looking over its territory. An eaglet was visible at the back of the nest, looking like it was eating. Eventually the 2nd adult popped up at the back of the nest; it was feeding the eaglet.

Eaglet moved to the front of the nest to be near the parent.

I visited the nest area on July 8th. I did not see or hear either of the adults, and the eaglet was hiding behind a branch next to the nest. The eaglet made its way down to the nest then decided to go to the top of the nest tree. It flapped its way up and made it where it perched on a branch looking very proud of itself

I visited the nest area again on July 14th and the eaglet was perched on a branch beside the nest, head hidden behind the greenery. My birding partner had been there on July 13th and said the eaglet had fledged; it was perched in a tree across the road from the nest tree

This is the opening post for the 2022-2023 nesting season.

I visited the nest area on Monday Nov. 14th but did not see or hear any eagles in the area. There were no neighbours to chat with. I took a couple of photos of the nest & tree.

I visited the nest site with my birding partner on April 12th. We were pleased to see an eagle in the nest; it appeared to be incubating & rolling eggs Tail feathers are visible on the left side of the tree trunk.

This was the only photo I took that captured part of the eagle

I visited the nest site with my birding partner on June 14th and we were very pleased to see an eaglet in the nest and an adult perched above the nest.
