Sylvan Lane nest, Mar. 30th

This is a very hard nest to see but I always take photos of the nest from both sides when we visit.
We did not see any adults in the area but the property owner said they have been there and making
a lot of noise and mess on the road. They are definitely incubating.

Mar. 30th.

We decided to take a look at the old Anderson Hill nest that the eagles have not used for several years.
It is still intact but does not look like any eagles have been nestorating.

The Ministry is conducting a study on pollutants in the water and the food that the eagles eat and a team of experts has been here since Wed. performing blood tests and measurements on the eaglets and banding them. One of the team members is biologist Miles Lamont, who has worked with David Hancock for many years. One is an employee from the Ministry and the other is an arborist who is climbing the trees to retrieve the eaglets.

The team was in Oak Bay yesterday and managed to sample 1 of the 2 eaglets in the Sylvan Lane nest. Sadly 1 of the eaglets fell from the nest and died the day before :(

They sampled 2 eaglets in the York Place nest and 1 of the 3 eaglets in the Uplands/Lansdowne nest. It was raining by that time which made it awkward for them to do their blood tests & measurements. The 3rd eaglet is tiny and might not make it :( I'm keeping :luck: that it does survive.

The team was unable to sample the eaglets in the Golf Course nest; the new manager had many concerns and wanted them to come at 5am.

I visited the Uplands/Lansdowne nest site yesterday and the eaglets were squawking in the nest. The eaglets were moving around in the nest but didn't get up. I saw part of a wing flapping but wasn't able to capture it in a photo.

I did manage to capture the head of one of the eaglets.

I visited 3 of the 4 nests located in Oak Bay with my birding partner on June 29th.

All 3 eaglets in the Uplands/Lansdowne nest were active while we were there between 10:00 and 11:40 am.

Oldest eaglet perched above the nest calling and calling. It flew off towards the water a short while later.

The youngest eaglet was objecting to being disturbed.

The youngest eaglet wanted to join its siblings but isn't ready to fledge yet.

Victoria Golf Course eaglets, June 29th.

One of my birding friends reported seeing 2 eaglets in the nest. I visited the nest site with my birding partner on June 29th and we were thrilled to see 3 big eaglets in the nest :woohoo: At first we didn't realize the dark blob in the middle was an eaglet, until it moved. We thought it was part of the tree trunk

June 29th York Place nest visit.

These eaglets are from the York Place nest. Both have been banded, measured, and blood samples taken by the Ministry crew. One is flying, the other one branching.

June 29th cont'd. York Place nest.

Both eaglets were squawking as an adult was approaching with a gull in its talons  It flew right past the nest and perched on top of a tree across the road. The adult sat there for quite a long time; must have been resting after the hunt. I waited several minutes before the clouds parted and I could capture some nice blue sky behind the eagle.
