June 29th cont'd. York Place nest.

The adult flew out of the nest and perched on a nearby branch, while the eaglets were self-feeding.

I was recently alerted to another situation of an eaglet falling from the nest. This one was at the Victoria Golf Course where I photographed all 3 eaglets in the nest on June 29th. This is the chat I copied from the Facebook page. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the wonderful caring folks at WildARC will be able to repair the damage and rehabilitate the eaglet :luck:

Edit 2: The eagle was safely contained and is on the way to the 24 hr emergency clinic. THANKS EVERYONE!
Edit: Help is on the way! Thanks so much everyone!
HELP!
Is there anyone near Victoria Golf Club that can drop off a dog or cat crate, or similar asap? There is a baby bald eagle with a broken wing that the kitchen staff have found. Animal rescue can't come until morning and they have nothing to keep it safely contained

Maia Bucerias
I believe the 24-hour emergency vet clinic on Roderick Street (near Mayfair Mall) holds injured wildlife until Wild Arc picks them up in the morning. I hope the poor little eagle will be okay.

Chelle Fox
Maia Bucerias I'm hoping once they get it safely contained they can head over there. It's too strong for a cardboard box unfortunately, hopefully the crate will be safer!

Chelle Fox
Maia Bucerias the eagle is on the way to the vet now. Yay

Message myself or Kelly Chartier if you dont figure something out, we volunteer for wildarc. We could pick it up tonight if you can't hold it till morning. Please do not feed it, most birds have special diets. If you manage to crate it, cover it with a blanket and keep it in a quiet place. Thanks!

Chelle Fox
Shane Robertson it's contained and on the way to the Roderick Street Clinic. Thanks so much!!!

An update on the eaglet from the golf course nest here Apparently the eaglet was not taken to our local Animal Hospital; it was transported to the Emergecy Vet in Nanaimo.

Another update from Foster Kritters on their Facebook page. I'm very sorry to report this devastating news :brknhrt:

Foster Kritters
Despite the best efforts of everyone involved the eaglet was not able to survive her injuries. I don't know that she was female, I'm just guessing based on her size since the females are bigger and she was a big baby. She most likely had a head injury caused by a force equal to being hit by a car. Nothing could have been done any different to change the outcome. All the people involved at least were a part of ending her suffering sooner. I obviously wish the outcome could have been different but this whole thing does remind me that there are really good people out there who will go above and beyond to help an animal in need.
RIP Eaglet 💔

I visited the nests in Oak Bay on July 20th.

When I arrived at the Uplands/Lansdowne nest I did not see or hear any eagles or eaglets. I took
photos of the nest from various vantage points.

I decided to drive down to the dead end street where the adults quite often perch and was pleased
to see one of the eaglets perched on the usual tree overlooking the bay.

July 20th Lansdowne eagles cont'd.

I could see the nest tree from the driveway of one of the properties on the dead end street and saw an eaglet sitting up in the nest. I am assuming it was the youngest eaglet. This is not a very good photo as the nest tree is quite far from the driveway.

When I arrived back at the nest site the eaglet was digging around in the nest, possibly hoping to find some food bits.

July 20th Lansdowne eagles cont'd.

One of the fledgling eaglets visited the nest and called for food. It preened for a few minutes and
eventually flew off when no food was delivered.

July 20th York Place Eagles

My friend told me that since my last visit to the nest site both eaglets had fledged :woohoo:
I visited the nest site and surrounding area on July 20th and did not see or hear any eagles or eaglets.
They were out and about learning to fly and find their own food.

I took a couple of photos of the nest tree.

July 20th Golf Course Eagles

When I arrived at the golf course nest site on July 20th I was pleased to see an eaglet perched at the top of the nest tree. It flapped around from branch to branch then back to the top of the nest tree. I did not see anything in the nest or any adults in the area.

Golf Course Eagles July 20th cont'd.

I was happy to see the eaglet fly from the nest tree, circle around the poplar trees along the property line between the golf course and the condo building next door 3 times. I managed to get one decent photo of it flying; it looked very confident :thumlft:

The eaglet landed safely back at the top of the nest tree and did a bit of preening.
